Qualifications

Location: Northeast Region. Qualified applicants from other areas may be considered. 100% Remote with nearly 100% domestic business travel

Reports to: Service Manager

Standard Schedule: Monday – Friday, with hours varying; flexibility to work weekends, early mornings, and some evenings required

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Compensation: $27 - $46 per hour

Job Responsibilities: The Service Technician–Mechanic travels to customer locations to install, maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and printing issues on Koenig & Bauer printing presses. The technician interacts directly with customers, listening to their needs and asking probing questions to prepare for installations or service calls. Effective communication of technical information and resolutions to customers with varying technical knowledge is essential. The technician must develop action plans to address customer issues, emphasizing quality work (fix it right the first time), efficiency to minimize downtime, and cost control.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on Koenig & Bauer equipment at customer sites, including but not limited to adjustments on impression and transfer delivery bars, pump and inker issues, seals, register drives, ink key seals, clamps, bladder replacements, crash repairs, cylinder replacements, etc.
  • Install Koenig & Bauer equipment (40-inch and larger) and sub-supplier equipment, following blueprints from delivery to commissioning, including base units, inker placement, infeed, extension, delivery, and feeder installation; placement of pumps and cabinets.
  • Conduct thorough audits on presses, inspecting components from the feeder to delivery, identifying worn or damaged parts, with a focus on safety. Prioritize repairs based on safety, quality, and production needs.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues using documentation, internal resources, and research to identify root causes and necessary repairs.
  • Develop and execute repair plans, including parts procurement, scheduling repairs with customers, coordinating with the Service Department for additional labor or specialized skills, and arranging for tools and parts.
  • Provide excellent customer service during all interactions, including greeting, listening, informing, and updating customers throughout the service process.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly, including parts used, work performed, time, and expenses.
  • Follow all customer site policies, safety procedures, and use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Perform other duties as needed based on business requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical certification or post-secondary education in printing, industrial, or related fields preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience in printing, press manufacturing, industrial maintenance, or similar technical fields.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, internet, word processing, and spreadsheets.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with hand tools such as wrenches, ratchets, sockets, pliers, hammers, screwdrivers.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical CAD drawings.
