Reports to: Service Manager

Standard Schedule: Monday – Friday, hours may vary; must be able to work weekends, early mornings, and some evenings

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Compensation: $27 - $46 per hour

Job Responsibility: The Service Technician–Mechanic travels to customer locations to install, maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and printing issues for Koenig & Bauer printing presses. The Service Technician interacts directly with customers, listening to their needs and asking probing questions in preparation for the installation or service call. They must effectively communicate technical information and resolutions to customers with varying technical knowledge. The technician develops an action plan prioritizing safety, quality, and efficiency to minimize downtime and control costs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on Koenig & Bauer equipment at customer sites, including but not limited to adjustments on impression and transfer delivery bars, pump and inker issues, seals, register drives, ink key seals, clamps, bladder replacements, machine crashes, and cylinder replacements.
  • Install Koenig & Bauer equipment (40-inch and larger) and sub-supplier equipment such as Baldwin cabinets, Technotrans, or AGT cabinets, following blueprints from delivery to commissioning, including installing base units, inker placement, infeed, extension, delivery, and feeder; placement of pumps and cabinets.
  • Conduct thorough audits on presses, inspecting from the feeder to the delivery, identifying worn or damaged parts, emphasizing safety issues. Prioritize repairs based on safety, quality, and production needs.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues using documentation, internal resources, and research to identify root causes and necessary repairs.
  • Determine and implement repair plans, coordinating with customers, parts departments, and service teams to procure parts, schedule repairs, and arrange for specialized tools if needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers, understanding their needs, explaining findings and plans, and maintaining communication during repairs.
  • Complete all records accurately, including parts used, work performed, and time tracking.
  • Follow all customer site policies, safety procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Perform other duties as necessary based on business needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED; technical certification or post-secondary education in printing, industrial, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience in printing, press manufacturing, or industrial maintenance.
  • Basic computer skills including email, internet, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Experience with hand tools, reading electrical schematics, and mechanical CAD drawings.
