Job summary

Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. seeks Marine Technicians to support the EPA’s R/V Lake Guardian, a research vessel operating throughout the Great Lakes. You will engage in hands-on work with scientific equipment, manage data, and support environmental research while traveling for assignments.

Ideal candidates hold a science degree with field experience in sampling methods and equipment maintenance, and are comfortable working aboard a ship for extended periods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field.
• Experience with biological sampling methods and field equipment.
• Ability to deploy, troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain scientific gear.
• Experience backing up data from instruments to central servers.
• Willingness to travel and work aboard a research vessel.

Responsibilities

• Support EPA’s R/V Lake Guardian with hands-on work on scientific equipment.
• Manage and transmit data collected during research voyages.
• Assist with data storage, retrieval, and backups on central servers.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field with 2 years of relevant experience
• Proficiency in biological sampling methods (zooplankton nets, benthic grabs, towed equipment)
• Experience with deployment, troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance of scientific equipment
• Ability to use computers and telecommunications equipment for data storage, retrieval, and transmission
• Ability to back up data from scientific instruments to central servers
• Willingness to travel and work aboard a research vessel
