Basic Job Functions:
- Assist in the installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment, troubleshoot daily manufacturing issues, and identify or implement system improvements to meet throughput, yield, and product performance goals.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 1 year experience as First Solar Manufacturing Engineering Technician I, or 3 years First Solar Technical experience, or 10 years technical experience in manufacturing.
- Associate’s degree in a technical discipline with at least 1 year as First Solar Manufacturing Engineering Technician I, or 2 years First Solar Technical Experience, or at least 3 years technical experience in manufacturing.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with 0-2 years technical experience in manufacturing.
- Safety first mindset.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem solving on the manufacturing line.
- Proficiency in electrical/electronic and mechanical systems.
- Ability to respond to SPC alarms to control processes.
- Self-directed with minimal supervision.
- Ability to apply statistical tools for data analysis and conclusions.
- Good communication skills in English, both written and oral.
- Ability to handle administrative and technical tasks.
- Assist with critical process alignment of laser systems and scribe parameters.
- Follow preventive maintenance procedures for laser systems and ensure timely completion.
- Run daily measurement routines on “Microvu” optical comparator and adjust lasers as needed.
- Monitor production line lasers to ensure quality; act as point of contact for laser issues.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite (for exempt positions).
- Resolve daily production, equipment, and process problems.
- Identify and implement yield and performance improvements; analyze causes of yield excursions.
- Set up and maintain gauges.
- Ensure processes run according to the Process Control Plan.
- Respond to SPC alarms and restore process control.
- Execute process experiments, analyze data, and report results.
- Collect and analyze data on tool and product performance.
- Provide training to production staff.
- Develop and update documentation like drawings, SOPs, and process specs.
- Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers on projects.
- Develop comprehensive understanding of processes, equipment, and support systems.
- Maintain effective communication with team members.
- Disqualify non-conforming products per established criteria.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping.
- Properly discard waste materials and manage hazardous waste containers.
- Ensure all goals are represented through activities and include, “Other duties as assigned” and “Job description subject to change at any time.”
Reporting Relationships:
- Reports to: Group Lead, Manufacturing Engineering
- No direct reports.
Travel:
- 0% - 5% for training or as needed.

Physical Requirements:

- Manufacturing & Maintenance: Sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, lift up to 58 lbs, handle objects, and wear PPE as required.
- Hybrid: Sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, lift up to 27 lbs, and wear PPE. Respirator use may be required.
- Project Site (non-craft): Similar to hybrid requirements.
- Office: Interaction with people and technology, face-to-face and phone communication, with accommodations as needed.
