Job summary

Ezee Fiber is seeking a dedicated Locates Technician to identify and mark underground utilities, safeguarding our fiber network during excavation.

You'll collaborate with field crews, contractors, and utility partners, using Konterra and 3GIS mapping, documenting findings with clear photos, and supporting after-hours tickets as needed. A safety-minded, detail-oriented candidate will thrive in our outdoors-focused team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; fibre optics certifications are a plus.
  • 6 months to 2 years of experience or training in utility locating, construction, surveying, or related field.
  • Familiarity with utility maps, blueprints, and survey drawings is beneficial.
  • Ability to operate utility locating equipment and interpret data accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Identify underground utilities with locating equipment and assess depth.
  • Clearly mark utility locations on the ground with paint, flags, or stakes.
  • Coordinate with construction teams, contractors, engineers and stakeholders.
  • Use Konterra and 3GIS to track, identify, and report locate tickets.
  • Document work with photos of quality and accuracy.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency tickets as scheduled.
  • Stay updated on locating techniques, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Provide excellent communication and customer service to clients.

JOB SUMMARY

Ezee Fiber is seeking a dedicated and skilled Locates Technician who will be responsible for identifying and marking the location of EZEE Fiber's underground lines, playing a critical role in protecting our underground infrastructure and ensuring safe excavation practices. You’ll work closely with field teams, contractors, and utility partners to prevent service disruptions and maintain the integrity of our network. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Utility Identification: Use specialized equipment and tools, such as pipe and cable locators, to accurately identify the presence and depth of underground utilities.
  • Marking and Flagging: Once utilities are identified, the locator must clearly mark their positions on the ground using appropriate marking materials, such as paint, flags, or stakes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with construction crews, contractors, engineers, and other relevant stakeholders to coordinate utility locating activities and ensure that projects proceed safely and efficiently.
  • Works with various software program's, including Konterra and 3GIS mapping, to track, identify, and report locate tickets.
  • Document work completed with quality, accurate, and descriptive photos.
  • Works on call as scheduled to respond to after-hours emergency tickets.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest utility locating techniques, equipment, and safety practices to enhance job performance and maintain industry standards.
  • Customer Service: Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills when dealing with clients, ensuring their needs are met and their concerns are addressed promptly.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in fibre optics are a plus. A minimum of six (6) months to two (2) years of experience or training in utility locating, construction, surveying, or a related field is advantageous, along with familiarity with utility maps, blueprints, and survey drawings is beneficial.

  • Ability to operate utility locating equipment and interpret data accurately.
  • Strong physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications for data entry and reporting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with team members and clients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.

Valid driver’s license

PHYSICAL, FIELD, OR ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The field and environmental requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, or wind. Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time. Lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 20 pounds as needed. Tolerate exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and uneven or slippery surfaces. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) during all applicable tasks.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Standard daily travel to assigned territories is required for this position (up to 30% of the time within a 10-mile radius)
