What You’ll Do
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate and identify system functioning, attempt repair or refer repair to specialist.
  • Perform pipefitting installation and repair work for a variety of District HVAC systems.
  • Weld or screw different types of pipe (e.g., fit screwed pipe) in system.
  • Soft solder or silver solder copper materials/pipes.
  • Fabricate, repair, and install HVAC system piping; rig heavy loads and coordinate with other shop staff.
  • Diagnose repairs; modify and perform repairs using blueprints and schematics; consider building codes (e.g., UBC) standards.
  • Design and modify existing District systems.
  • Perform work and cross‑train in at least one other trade, as an apprentice.
  • Assist with snow removal efforts on a 24‑hour on‑call basis and respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Communicate and coordinate with staff at work site and other shop staff.
  • Prepare and clean up job site (e.g., erecting scaffolding), taking into consideration safety concerns of self and others (e.g., students, employees), and dispose of waste and flammable materials.
  • Review work orders, prioritize, and determine supplies for repair and purchase supplies using District purchase order system.
  • Under direction of L3 (Master or Multi‑Skilled), may assist or perform the following: bid on work requested by schools and prepare cost estimates; train and mentor other shop staff; inspect work of independent contractors and identify deficiencies; communicate with project manager about correcting deficiencies according to code (e.g., city, state) and DPS specifications.
What You’ll Need
  • L2: Four (4) years of experience.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and meet district insurability standards.
