Job summary

Denver Public Schools seeks a skilled HVAC sheet metal worker to install, repair, and maintain duct systems and related metal work across district facilities.

Candidate should have four years of relevant experience, a valid Colorado driver's license, and the ability to obtain a CDL. The role includes on-site work, safety responsibilities, and collaboration with the shop team and contractors.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's license and meet insurability standards.
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and dismantling inequity in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and coordinates with staff at work site and with other shop staff.
  • Installs HVAC systems using various materials.
  • Diagnoses repairs and modifies HVAC ductwork according to plans and codes.
  • Maintains safety at job site and handles waste and flammable materials.
  • Bids on work and prepares quotes for schools.
  • Inspects work of contractors and coordinates corrections with project manager.

About This Job

Installs, repairs and maintains District systems that involve sheet metal and related materials work (e.g., HVAC duct systems, architectural sheet metal products, toilet partitions, metal window mechanisms, lockers).

What You'll Do
  • Communicates and coordinates with staff at work site and with other shop staff.
  • Works with and installs HVAC systems using various materials.
  • Diagnoses repairs; modifies and performs repairs using blueprints; and considering building codes and standards.
  • Prepares and cleans up job site, taking into consideration safety concerns of self and others, and disposes of waste and flammable materials.
  • Reviews works orders, troubleshoots repairs, and modifies HVAC ductwork systems according to existing plan and work order request.
  • Fabricates, repairs, and installs HVAC internal system ductwork, fittings, registers, venting, pipe fittings, architectural sheet metal products, toilet partitions; metal window mechanisms; lockers and storage cabinets.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs work involving repairs with sheet metal related materials.
  • Performs work and cross trains in at least one other trade as an apprentice.
  • Assists with snow removal efforts on a 24 hour on-call basis.
  • Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Trains and mentors staff.
  • Bids on work requested by schools, and prepares quote.
  • Inspects work of independent contractors, identifies deficiencies, and communicates with project manager about correcting deficiencies according to code and DPS specifications.
What You’ll Need
  • High School Diploma/GED Required
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience
  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License and meet District insurability standards.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
