Job Title: Technician IWSS

Job Location: Baltimore, MD

Job Duration: 5 months on W2

Shift Time: 2nd Shift 1pm-9:30pm

Job Description:

The Technician IWSS is an essential team member of our Hospital Services team. The technician will be responsible for collecting and receiving waste from hospital personnel. Waste should be inspected for acceptance according to waste protocols. This team member will partner closely with their supervisor to ensure that all waste remains in compliance.

Key Job Activities:
  1. Separate waste streams into appropriate categories for treatment or disposal:
  • Solid waste
  • RMW
  • Recycling
  • Hazardous
  • Confidential
  • Operate compactors and/or shredders as required
  • Unload waste from incoming vehicles. Separate non-autoclavable waste to be incinerated
  • Stage waste in area and/or properly stack waste for scanning in the Bio track system for recordkeeping
  • Scan waste carts for radioactivity and other adverse materials
  • Load treatment equipment with waste for processing and/or properly package waste for transport off-site. Operate RMW waste treatment equipment
  • Wash and decontaminate waste carts manually and/or operate tub wash unit, ensuring proper operation. Inspect and stack clean tubs for reuse
  • Decontaminate vehicle cargo areas, reload reusable tubs, and ensure no free liquid on the floor
  • Make simple adjustments or repairs such as realigning belts, replacing grinder teeth, and repairing containers; escalate major issues to mechanic
  • Maintain a clean environment through housekeeping: address spills, keep floors dry, and remove debris immediately
  • Greet hospital personnel professionally and courteously
  • Optional duties:
    • Perform collection services throughout the hospital
    • Interact professionally with patients and staff
    • Shift leader responsibilities as needed: staffing, safety compliance, documentation, communication with management
    • Report waste flow issues and assist in scheduling and documentation
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    Experience:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • At least 1 year of experience, preferably in warehouse, environmental services, or related field

    Additional requirements: Reliable transportation. Will be working at client sites.
