Job description

Primary Responsibilities for the Technician IV-Met Lab:

  • Prepares samples for analysis/examination and carries out a diversified range of the most complex metallurgical services.
  • Perform various complex mechanical tests on specialized equipment, such as hardness testing, tension, tensile, resistivity etc.
  • Perform various metallographic and magnetic tests using etchants, polishing equipment, and specialized metallographic equipment.
  • Collect and record test data obtained during the evaluation. Makes recommendation to supervision based on recorded test data.
  • Also responsible for tasks related to directing, training, and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Met Lab.
  • Facilitate the movement of products into and out of the department. Communicates the goals and objectives of the department to less senior Technicians.
  • Facilitate the completion of tests and training requirements. Participates in quality audits as a representative of the Met Lab.
  • This position can be located in any of the following areas: Mechanical Testing, Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetics Testing, or Heat Treating.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements for the Technician IV-Met Lab:

  • High school diploma.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience.
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing processes; makes recommendations to improve standard procedures.
  • Anticipates and recommends changes to current processes to respond to customer needs.
  • Provides guidance to others and coordinates the work of teams.
  • Acts as a facilitator to resolve conflicts within a team. May be required to act as a team leader within own area or department; does not supervise.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to perform assignments of the most complex nature.
  • Ability to operate advanced metallurgical/laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
