Job summary

IES is a national provider of industrial products and infrastructure services with a large footprint across the United States. We are seeking a Technician II - Service to respond to service calls and perform structured cabling tasks involving outlets, racks, patch panels, and terminations, while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

The role requires physical stamina, the ability to travel within territory, and the skill to read blueprints and install and test copper and fiber

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum six years in telecommunications or related field.
  • Some knowledge of A/V installation preferred.
  • Proficient with listed tools.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and project documents.
  • Know universal color codes.
  • Meet company driving standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture, and walls; terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks.
  • Build closets with backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels; install grounding as required.
  • Test continuity and troubleshoot opens/shorts on cables; use volt-ohmmeters.
  • Identify active voice or data circuits and troubleshoot cabling issues.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, work orders, etc.).
  • Adhere to safety standards and company/customer regulations.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Job Summary

The Technician II - Service can perform the technical tasks of a Technician II - Structured Cabling. The Technician II - Service will respond to service calls as needed.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • 1. The Technician II - Service will install a work area outlet for floor, modular furniture and wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks. Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards).
  • 2. The Technician II - Service will build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
  • 3. The Technician II - Service performs testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
  • 4. The Technician II - Service will identify active voice or data circuits.
  • 5. The Technician II - Service will troubleshoot fiber and copper cabling to identify and correct issues.
  • 6. The Technician II - Service will fully complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
  • 7. The Technician II - Service will adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
  • 8. The Technician II - Service will complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Min: USD $27.00/Hr.

Max: USD $32.00/Hr.

Qualifications
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Regular attendance is mandatory
  • Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).
  • Must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • Must be able to act as the Company liaison for interface with customer representative(s).
  • Must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
  • Must be able to work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk very large job sites regularly.
  • Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • Must have a strong aptitude for independent working environment and high productivity rate
  • Must be available to work on-call as required.
Tools
  • Tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, and gloves.
  • Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, and Krone/3M/BIX.
Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements
  • Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Must possess a minimum of six (6) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field.
  • Some knowledge of A/V installation and components preferred.
  • Must possess and be proficient with the listed tools.
  • Must have proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Must know the universal communications color codes.
  • Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
