Position Details

Tech II - Full Time in PCU

Shift: 6:00pm - 6:30am, 3 shifts per week (every third weekend Sat and Sun)

Summary

The Technician II is a key member of the patient-family care team in the Emergency Department. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Technician II provides clinical support and customer service, including reception of patients, families, and visitors, as well as administrative, clerical, and clinical tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Provide care and assistance according to customer service and care standards, addressing emotional needs and activities of daily living such as nutrition, hygiene, and elimination.
  • Deliver patient-family centered care considering growth, development, cultural, religious, and individual preferences.
  • Support patient safety initiatives, including maintaining a quiet environment, hourly rounds, falls prevention, and customer service.
  • Process patient care orders accurately and timely, communicating priority orders to the responsible RN or appropriate department.
  • Educate patients and families before medical examinations and procedures. Prepare supplies and equipment for procedures.
  • Obtain measurements such as vital signs, weight, and intake/output. Apply cardiac monitoring and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Perform procedures like 12-Lead EKG, blood draws, wound care, and educate patients/families about these procedures. Apply ice packs, splints, and assist with mobility aids.
  • Follow infection control protocols, using PPE and standard precautions.
  • Collect and label specimens (blood, urine, stool, sputum) as per protocol.
  • Transport, transfer, and reposition patients safely, utilizing proper body mechanics.
  • Communicate patient flow and unit information to the RN and care team promptly.
  • Restock supplies, check and clean equipment, and perform quality controls.
  • Inventory patient belongings at admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff.
Credentials
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • CPR (must be obtained if not held at hire)
Education or Equivalent Experience
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Experience at an acute care facility or as a student nurse with hospital clinical experience is preferred.
