Tech II - Full Time - PACU

Mon - Fri, 9am - 5:30pm

Summary:
  • The Technician II is a key member of the patient-family care team of the Emergency Department. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Technician II is responsible for clinical support and customer service standards including reception of patients, families, and visitors, as well as administrative, clerical, and clinical support.
Responsibilities:
  • Provides care and assistance according to customer service and care standards for emotional needs and activities of daily living such as nutrition, hygiene, and elimination.
  • Provides patient-family centered care considering growth, development, cultural, religious needs, and individual preferences.
  • Adheres to unit initiatives supporting patient safety and care, such as maintaining a quiet environment, hourly patient rounds, falls prevention, etc.
  • Accurately and promptly processes patient care orders and reports, communicating priority orders to the responsible RN or department.
  • Educates patients and families before medical examinations and procedures. Prepares supplies and equipment for procedures.
  • Obtains vital signs, body weight, intake and output measurements, and applies cardiac monitoring with troubleshooting as directed.
  • Performs procedures like 12-Lead EKG, blood draws, wound care, and educates patients and families about these procedures. Applies ice packs, splints, and provides crutch/cane/walker education.
  • Follows infection control principles, uses PPE, and standard precautions.
  • Collects and labels specimens per protocol, including blood, urine, stool, and sputum.
  • Transport, transfer, reposition, or mobilize patients safely, utilizing proper body mechanics and safe handling practices.
  • Communicates patient flow and relevant information to the care team in a timely manner.
  • Restocks supplies, checks, cleans, and performs quality control on equipment.
  • Inventories patient belongings at admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new employees.
Credentials:
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
  • CPR (must be obtained if not held at hire)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Experience at an acute care facility or as a student nurse with hospital-based clinical experience; equivalent experience is also acceptable.
