Summary
  • The Technician II is a key member of the patient-family care team in the Emergency Department. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Technician II supports clinical, administrative, and customer service functions including patient reception, clerical tasks, and clinical support.
Responsibilities
  • Provide care and assistance based on customer service and care standards, addressing emotional needs and activities of daily living such as nutrition, hygiene, and elimination.
  • Deliver patient-family centered care considering growth, development, cultural, religious, and personal preferences.
  • Support unit initiatives to enhance patient safety and care, including maintaining a quiet environment, hourly rounds, falls prevention, etc.
  • Process patient care orders accurately and promptly, communicating priorities to the responsible RN or department.
  • Educate patients and families about medical procedures and prepare supplies and equipment for medical staff.
  • Obtain vital signs, measure body weight, and record intake and output; apply cardiac monitoring and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Perform procedures such as 12-Lead EKG, blood draws, wound care, and educate patients/families about these procedures.
  • Follow infection control principles, use PPE, and handle specimens per protocol.
  • Transport and mobilize patients safely, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Communicate patient flow and unit information timely to the care team.
  • Restock supplies, maintain equipment, and inventory patient belongings.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff.
Credentials
  • Certified Nurse Aid or Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and CPR (must obtain if not held at hire).
Education or Equivalent Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in an acute care facility or as a student nurse in hospital clinicals preferred.
