Summary
  • The Technician II is a key member of the patient-family care team of the Emergency Department. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Technician II provides clinical support and customer service, including reception of patients, families, visitors, administrative, clerical, and clinical support.
Responsibilities
  • Provides care and assistance according to customer service and care standards for emotional needs and activities of daily living such as nutrition, hygiene, and elimination.
  • Provides patient-family centered care considering growth, development, cultural, religious needs, and individual preferences.
  • Supports patient safety initiatives like maintaining a quiet environment, hourly rounds, falls prevention, etc.
  • Accurately processes patient care orders and reports, communicates priorities to the responsible RN or department.
  • Educates patients and families before medical exams and procedures. Prepares supplies and equipment for procedures.
  • Obtains vital signs, body weight, intake/output, applies cardiac monitoring, and performs troubleshooting as directed.
  • Performs procedures such as 12-Lead EKG, blood draws, wound care, and educates about procedures like ice packs, splints, crutch/walker use.
  • Follows infection control principles, uses PPE, and collects/labels specimens.
  • Transport, transfer, reposition, or mobilize patients safely, utilizing proper body mechanics.
  • Communicates patient flow and unit information timely to the RN and team.
  • Restocks supplies, maintains equipment, inventories patient belongings, and serves as a preceptor for new employees.
Credentials
  • Certified Nurse Aid or Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and CPR (must obtain if not held at hire).
Education or Equivalent Experience
  • H.S. Diploma/GED required.
  • Experience at an acute care facility or clinical experience as a student nurse is preferred. Equivalent experience is acceptable.
