Job summary

Zūm Services, Inc. is hiring a Technician II at one of its maintenance sites in Spokane, WA.

You will diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, perform repairs across steering, brakes, cooling, and driveline systems, and support preventive maintenance to keep the fleet safe and reliable for students and communities. You will work with senior technicians, document work thoroughly, and assist with engine, transmission, and differential rebuilds as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two to four years medium/heavy truck Fleet mechanic repair experience.
  • Diagnostic, Electrical, and AC skills are a must.
  • Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment is required.
  • Previous fleet experience with familiarity with diesel and gasoline systems.
  • Possess the recommended minimum hand tools for a Medium and Heavy Duty and Diesel Technician.
  • Ability to use good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Preferred: Valid CDL License.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform vehicle repairs including steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions.
  • Assist Tech I’s with the rebuilding of engines, transmissions, and differentials as assigned by the manager.
  • Perform test drives during Preventative Maintenance inspections to identify issues and verify repairs.
  • Arrange inspections and approvals of major repairs before release from the facility.
  • Record time spent, parts used and repairs conducted on the appropriate form.
  • Perform road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work area in compliance with regulations and company standards.
  • Work scheduled shifts and overtime as needed.

About the Role

We're seeking a skilled Technician II to contribute to maintenance operations at one of our key sites. This role encompasses vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance with increasing complexity. You'll diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, assist with major component rebuilds, and ensure vehicles meet stringent safety and compliance standards. You'll be a vital part of our transportation operations, maintaining fleet reliability and safety for students and communities.

Responsibilities
Vehicle Diagnostics & Repair
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform vehicle repairs including steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and oil, temperature, gas regulating components, and related assigned duties within qualification level, in accordance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial and local guidelines and requirements.

  • Assist Tech I’s with the rebuilding of engines, transmissions, and differentials as assigned by the manager.

  • Perform test drives during Preventative Maintenance inspections to identify driver reported issues and conduct test drives after service to confirm repairs have been completed successfully.

Maintenance Operations & Quality Control
  • Arrange for and obtain appropriate inspections and approval of all major repairs before the vehicle is released from the maintenance facility.

  • Identify and report any additional maintenance and/or repairs found necessary in conducting assigned repairs and maintenance including repairs and maintenance required to be performed by Technicians with a higher qualification level.

  • Perform work assigned by manager or lead when supervised.

  • Record time spent, parts used and repairs and/or maintenance conducted on the appropriate form.

  • Perform road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.

Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a safe, clean, productive, and efficient work area including ensuring the work area is in compliance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial, local guidelines and requirements, and company Housekeeping standards and safety regulations.

  • Advise Lead Technician of unsafe maintenance conditions or practices and/or vehicle abuse.

  • Work assigned shift and overtime as needed (AM/PM).

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two to four years medium/heavy truck Fleet mechanic repair experience.

  • Diagnostic, Electrical, and AC skills are a must.

  • Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment is required.

  • Previous fleet experience with familiarity with diesel and gasoline systems.

  • Possess the recommended minimum hand tools for a Medium and Heavy Duty and Diesel Technician.

  • Ability to use good judgment and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid CDL License (Must be able to obtain within the first 90 days of employment).

  • ASE Certification in brakes, suspension, engine, electrical, A/C or a Master School Bus and/or a Master Truck Technician.
