Job summary

Saber Power is looking for a technician in Omaha, NE to perform electrical testing, maintenance, and start-ups of high voltage substations. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, reporting, and ensuring safety on the job.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of the major components of a substation.
• Broad knowledge of control and protection systems.
• Knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation.
• Ability to travel 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus.
• Generate technical reports detailing services provided and corrective actions.
• Perform troubleshooting and make recommendations for repairs.
• Communicate effectively with clients and company management.

Job description

We are looking for a professional technician in Omaha, NE to perform electrical testing, maintenance, and start‑ups of high voltage substations.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus, substations, and switchgear including (but not limited to):
  • Protective relaying and relaying systems
  • Circuit Breakers
  • Power Transformers
  • Current and Potential Transformers
  • Meters, Transducers, and power system metering
  • Power Cables
  • Grounding Systems
  • Motors and Motor Starters
  • Station Batteries and Chargers
  • Alarm systems and annunciators
  • Personal Protective Equipment
• Perform troubleshooting and problem identification and analysis. Make recommendations regarding corrective action and/or repairs.
• Generate technical reports detailing services provided, problems found, and corrective action taken or recommended.
• Represent the company in a professional manner regarding communication and interfacing with clients.
• Communicate effectively with the company management team on a regular basis regarding project status and scheduling of manpower and equipment.
• Always make safety a top priority, realizing that the company has zero tolerance for those who do otherwise.
• Perform other job‑related duties as requested by management.

Qualifications

• Power DB knowledge a plus.
• Word processing, spreadsheet and e‑mail software proficiency.
• Mathematics, including algebra and trigonometry.
• Broad knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals.
• Broad knowledge of the major components of a substation.
• Broad knowledge of control and protection systems.
• Knowledge of high‑voltage electric field theory.
• Broad knowledge of electrical code and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI).
• Broad knowledge of civil / structural codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, ACI).
• Broad knowledge of the function of major electrical equipment.
• Broad knowledge of ground grid theory and design.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation.
• Knowledge of drafting standards.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co‑workers.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to travel 50% of the time.
