Job summary

Vantage Systems, Inc. is hiring for a junior level role at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM, to support AFRL SSHINE contracts. You will assist fabrication, assembly, and testing of spacecraft apparatus and control instruments, coordinate test setups, and help ensure hardware meets specifications.

The role involves installing test rigs, recording data, and collaborating with engineers to optimize test methods and equipment, with potential travel for flight integration and telemetry analysis.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with AA degree or 0+ years of experience with BS/BA degree.
  • Clearance: TS with eligibility for SCI Poly.

Responsibilities

  • Supports fabrication, assembly, and installation of apparatus and control instrumentation used to test experimental or prototype spacecraft and subsystems.
  • Tests and records results, utilizing engineering principles and test technology.
  • Participates in conversations with engineering personnel to resolve fabrication problems and review test plans.
  • Fabricates precision parts using metalworking machines or interprets specifications.
  • Examines parts for conformance with dimensional specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Coordinates and installs units or systems to be tested in test fixtures and connects controls and power sources.
  • Activates controls to apply power and runs test cycles, monitoring data for engineers.
  • May recommend changes in test methods or equipment for engineering review.
  • Supports flight experiment launch integration, hardware/software integration, and post-launch telemetry analysis.
  • Assists with shipping and receiving of flight hardware and related equipment.

We are looking for highly qualified candidates for a contract positioned onsite at the Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) SSHINE contract.

At a junior level:
  • Supports the fabrication, assembly, and installation of apparatus and control instrumentation used to test experimental or prototype mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, hydromechanical, or structural spacecraft, instruments, ground systems, or subsystems, and tests and records results, utilizing engineering principles and test technology.
  • Participates in conversations with engineering personnel to resolve fabrication problems relating to specifications and to review test plans, such as types and cycles of tests, conditions under which tests are to be conducted, and duration of tests.
  • Fabricates precision parts for test apparatus, using metalworking machines such as lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment, or interprets specifications for workers fabricating parts.
  • Examines parts for conformance with dimensional specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Coordinates and participates in installing unit or system to be tested in test fixtures, connecting valves, pumps, hydraulic, mechanical or electrical controls, cabling, tubing, power source, and indicating instruments.
  • Activates controls to apply electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical power and subject test item to successive steps in test cycle.
  • Monitors controls and instruments and records test data for engineer's use.
  • May recommend changes in test methods or equipment for engineering review.
  • Workers are classified according to engineering specialty or type of product tested.
  • Support assembly and integration: facility management (training, security, safety), spacecraft and balloon assembly, hardware/software procurement, maintenance/upgrade of integration capabilities, hazard identification, and laboratory safety instructions per the Programmatic ESH Evaluation Plan.
  • Support flight experiment launch integration: integration studies, ICDs, packing/protecting/shipping flight equipment, hardware/software integration (mechanical installation, functional testing, range safety, day-of-launch), and post-launch anomaly resolution and telemetry analysis.
  • Support shipping and receiving of flight experiment and AI&T hardware/software.
