Job description

This is a skilled and technical position responsible for locating underground utilities in the Lee County Utilities service area. The utilities include water, wastewater, reclaimed water, electric, and fiber optic lines. This role requires hands-on experience and a high level of accuracy in identifying and marking utility locations.
  • Locate water lines (1" to 36"), including valves, fire hydrants, meter boxes, and water service lines.

  • Locate wastewater lines (4" to 30"), including sewer laterals, force mains, manholes, and valves.

  • Locate reclaimed water lines (3" to 12"), including valves, meters, and service lines.

  • Locate electric, fiber optic, and chemical lines as needed.

  • Use a variety of hand tools and electronic locating devices to perform the work safely and accurately.

  • Follow proper procedures for handling tools and working around underground utilities.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One (1) year of related experience in utility locating or a similar field.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Licensing and Certifications

  • Some positions may require specific licenses or certifications, either at the time of hire or within a set period after starting the job.
  • Skill in using utility locating equipment and interpreting signals correctly.

  • Ability to read and interpret utility as-built drawings (maps and construction plans).

  • Ability to manage a high volume of daily tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong time management skills to ensure all assigned locates are completed on schedule.
