Job summary

IES is seeking a Technician I - Security Systems to assist with installing security systems including Card Access, CCTV, CATV and Intrusion Detection Systems. This entry-level role works under experienced technicians to develop skills in low-voltage installations and field work.

Responsibilities include assisting with installations, routing cabling, reading drawings, and supporting senior technicians with testing and troubleshooting. Safety and documentation are emphasized across all projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as Lead Communications Technician or similar.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in telecommunications or related field.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
  • Must meet driving standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to define projects, scopes, estimates and tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation of Access Control, CCTV, CATV, and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Pull, route, secure and label low-voltage cabling per specs.
  • Read engineered drawings, floor plans and installation instructions.
  • Support senior technicians with installation, testing and troubleshooting.
  • Complete project paperwork (timesheets, work orders, material transfers, change orders, tool transfers).
  • Follow safety programs and quality standards.
  • Maintain tools and work area; learn best practices for career advancement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technician I - Security Systems | Job Summary

The Technician I - Security Systems is an entry-level field technician responsible for assisting with the installation of security systems, including Card Access, CCTV, CATV, and Intrusion Detection Systems. This role is designed for individuals developing their technical skills in low-voltage and security system installations while working under the direction of experienced technicians and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the installation of:
    • Access Control Systems
    • CCTV / Video Surveillance Systems
    • CATV Systems
    • Intrusion Detection Systems
  • Pull, route, secure, and label low-voltage cabling according to project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Read and follow engineered drawings, floor plans, and installation instructions.
  • Support senior technicians with device installation, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Complete required project documentation accurately and on time, including:
    • Timesheets
    • Work orders
    • Material transfers
    • Change orders
    • Tool transfers
    • Other project-related paperwork
  • Follow and participate in all company, customer, and industry safety programs and quality standards.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work environment.
  • Learn industry best practices, installation standards, and technical skills necessary for career advancement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Regular attendance is mandatory
  • The General Superintendent must be self-motivated, positive in approach, and convey an appropriate professional image.
  • The General Superintendent must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • The General Superintendent must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
  • The General Superintendent must also have excellent organizational skills and the ability to develop branch and job processes and best practices.
  • The General Superintendent must have proven high skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • The General Superintendent must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • The General Superintendent must possess the ability to learn and teach the Company and customer project management systems.
  • The General Superintendent must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk very large job sites regularly.
  • The General Superintendent must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:
  • Prefer a minimum of five (5) years’ experience of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • The General Superintendent must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Lead Communications Technician or similar position.
  • The General Superintendent must also have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in telecommunications or a related technical or construction field.
  • Must be proficient with a computer and be skilled with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project).
  • Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
  • The General Superintendent Must have demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, create an estimate, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.
  • Must be able to use the following trade Tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt-ohmmeter, 4-pair continuity tester and 5-gang punch tool.
