Job Summary

We are seeking a Technician I for our Necropsy team at our Safety Assessment site located in Ashland, Ohio. The position requires a 4/10 schedule, either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday 8 a.m.–6:30 p.m., with weekend and holiday rotation and overtime requirements.

A Technician I is in training to become proficient in onboarding skills, procedures, and teamwork. The technician will learn basic study conduct skills, including animal handling, euthanasia, sedation, dissection, sample collection, weight measurement, laboratory preparation, setup, cleaning, and solution preparation, all under close supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals through gentle, positive human-animal interactions.
  • Train in onboarding skills such as animal handling, euthanasia, sedation, dissection, sample collection, weight measurement, laboratory preparation, setup, cleaning, and solution preparation, as specified by the training plan and business needs.
  • Perform core skill functions within the time frame set by the training group.
  • Collect, document, review, and verify data on forms or in electronic data capture systems.
  • Review documentation of performed functions as part of quality control requirements.
  • Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
  • Learn and use anatomical terms.
  • Receive, track, and prepare samples or materials as required for the department.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

The pay for this position is $19/hr. Salaries vary within the range based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a substitute.
  • Certification/Licensure: None, unless required by local government.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.
  • Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and ability to learn a validated system.
  • Ability to maintain a safe working environment by observing safety procedures and using protective clothing and equipment.
  • Ability to ensure study integrity and fulfill regulatory agency requirements via GLP, SOP, BOP, and IACUC rules.
  • Ability to work extended hours beyond the normal schedule, including evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and shifts on short notice.
  • Ability to work under specific time constraints.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without a sponsor visa now or in the future.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Must perform laboratory procedures requiring speaking, hearing, standing, or sitting for long periods, data entry, instrument use, hand and arm reaching, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment includes exposure to sharp objects, mechanical parts, potentially toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, and noise ranging from quiet to moderately noisy.
Comments
  • May occasionally work weekend/holidays and/or rotating on-call schedule.
