Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Full Time Technician I for Southwoods State Prison, located in Bridgeton, NJ. The Technician I participates as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the Prison.

Responsibilities include:

  • Taking vital signs, height, and weight, and documenting in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Assisting the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for examinations.
  • Obtaining specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
  • Assisting with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
  • Maintaining or assisting in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering appropriately and timely.
  • Maintaining supply stock in examination rooms.
  • Aggregating medication orders and forwarding them to the pharmacy provider/local pharmacy.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification required.
  • At least two (2) years of progressively responsible healthcare experience involving multiple knowledge, skills, and abilities, demonstrating competencies to perform essential duties.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • CPR Certification
  • Valid Driver's License and own vehicle or alternative transportation required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting and rotating patients up to 50 pounds.

Special Conditions:

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
