Job summary

Black Hills Trucking LLC in Gillette, WY is hiring a full-time on-site Diesel/Truck Technician. You will inspect, repair, and maintain trucks and trailers, coordinate with teammates, and ensure safe operation of equipment.

The job requires a high school diploma or equivalent with 0–2 years’ mechanical experience, ability to read safety and maintenance documents, and a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 0–2 years of mechanical experience.
• Own tools.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR.
• DOT eligibility and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, repairs, and maintains trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
• Works with other technicians and cross-trains as necessary to keep trucks and trailers in continuous operation.
• Observes and listens to defective equipment to determine cause of trouble or nature and extent of equipment damage; reports major problems to supervisor and repairs, overhauls, or replaces parts as directed.
• Inspect trucks, equipment, and machinery to diagnose defects and verify repairs.
• Operates and handles fuels, lubricants, and solvents safely following MSDS guidelines.
• Keeps work area clean by sweeping, discarding used material properly and storing tools and supplies.
• May be required to operate small vehicles on and off company premises.

What You’ll Do:

• Inspects, repairs, and maintains trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
• Works with other technicians and cross-trains as necessary to keep trucks and trailers in continuous operation.
• Observes and listens to defective equipment to determine cause of trouble or nature and extent of equipment damage. Uses discretion in repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts as necessary; reports major problems to supervisor and repairs, overhauls, or replaces parts as directed.
• Inspect trucks, equipment, and machinery to diagnose defects and verify repairs.
• Mixes, utilizes, dispenses, and/or properly disposes of volatile compounds including fuels, lubricants, and solvents; reads and is knowledgeable of Material Safety Data Sheets for any such materials and knows proper handling/disposal requirements for substances requiring specialized handling/disposal.
• Keeps work area clean by sweeping, discarding used material properly and storing tools and supplies.
• May be required to operate small vehicles on and off company premises.

What We're Looking For:

Required Education, Experience and/or Abilities

• A high school diploma or equivalent education with zero to two (0-2) years of mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
• Ability to provide own tools.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Abilities

• Ability to meet physical requirements established by the Department of Transportation (DOT), including DOT drug/alcohol testing.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Possession of a valid driver’s license with good Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and the ability to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

• English language fluency, verbal and written.
• Acceptable results of a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol test.
