Job description

Objective

This position is primarily responsible for evaluating and performing service and/or repair jobs on engines and generators.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and service equipment generators (diesel and/or gas engines, transfer switches, switch gear, etc.), air compressors, and HVAC units using proper tools and procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and efficiently; work orders, service reports, allocation of time, and tracking parts.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction by ensuring customer needs and deadlines are met.
  • Complete all scheduled repairs in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and maintain quality housekeeping in the work area.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • No formal responsibility for supervising others.
Qualifications

Required

  • High School diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years or more of mechanical experience with engines/generators.

Preferred

  • 5 years or more experience with engines/generators, preferably Caterpillar equipment.
  • Experience with transfer switches, switch gear, and uninterrupted power source (UPS) equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of power train, diesel engines, and electrical systems.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening skills.
  • Strong multitasking abilities, detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Professional demeanor with both internal and external contacts, including personal appearance and friendly, courteous treatment of peers and people at all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); ability to learn CAT/MacAllister/Michigan Cat systems.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective customer and professional relationships through strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on relationship-building and consistent demonstration of solid professional judgment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional confined sitting (at computer, in car, etc.).
  • Occasional non-confined sitting (able to move about at will).
  • Frequent standing or walking.
  • Frequent rapid use of arms, hands, or fingers in handling or manipulating objects, or operating equipment, tools, and/or instruments requiring fine eye-hand coordination.
  • Frequent repeated bending, crouching, stretching, up and down stairs, or crawling.
  • Frequent unaided lifting of objects up to 20 pounds; occasional unaided lifting of objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequent working at heights (such as scaffolding, rooftops, or ladders).
  • Frequent communication with other individuals. Must be able to exchange accurate information when speaking with customers, coworkers, and/or vendors.
  • Frequent use of near and far vision acuity. Must be able to identify objects within two feet or less and at a distance of 20 feet.
