Job summary

Mercedes-Benz of Hoffman Estates is seeking an Automotive Master Technician to perform repair work and maintenance for cars, trucks and other motor vehicles on site in Hoffman Estates, IL. The role requires ASE Master Technician certification and at least three years of related experience.

The technician will diagnose, test, repair, and service vehicles, including preventive maintenance and complex repairs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Master ASE technician certification required.
• Three years related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Specializes in one area of motor vehicle repair (e.g., transmissions, radiators, brakes).
• Identifies mechanical problems using visual inspection or diagnostic tools.
• Performs tests to confirm proper function; ensures critical parts are inspected.
• Performs routine and preventive maintenance (oil changes, tune-ups).
• Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems (brakes, radiators, transmissions).
• Conducts tests and, if needed, test drives to verify repairs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $25.00 To $50.00 Hourly

Job Summary:

The Automotive Master Technician will perform repair work and maintenance for cars, trucks, and other motor vehicles.

Reports To:

• Service Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Specializes in one area of motor vehicle repair, such as transmissions, radiators, brakes, air conditioning, or another specific component of an automobile.
• Identifies mechanical problems, either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
• Performs tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function; ensures that all critical parts are examined.
• Performs routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups.
• Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, brake rotors, radiators, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
• Performs further tests that may include test driving the vehicle to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of the specialized area and general vehicle repair.
• Excellent mechanical repair skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
• Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
• Ability to read service and repair manuals.
• Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
• Ability to read work orders.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Master technician certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence required.
• Three years of related experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, crouch, crawl, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
• Must have good vision to inspect repair work.
• Must be able to frequently lift or move 10 – 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work while reaching overhead.
• Must be able to safely use power tools.
• Must be able to work safely in a noisy area.
• Must be able to work in an area where you are exposed to fumes and liquid & gas chemicals.
• Must be able to test drive vehicles to inspect them and determine repairs needed.
• Must be able to adapt to severe climate variances.
• Must be able to work extended hours when needed.
