Job summary

RJE Telecom in Northern Virginia is seeking an Engineering Field Technician to support design and implementation of outside plant facilities. The role involves collecting site data, producing sketches, and ensuring conformance to project specs and safety standards.

You will measure cables, poles, and structures, document details for work orders, and coordinate with teams to keep projects on schedule. A valid driver’s license and relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• At least two years related experience or training.
• Reside in Northern Virginia area or near Winchester/Warrenton, VA.

Responsibilities

• Locate, sketch and document ISP facilities including cables, poles, manholes and equipment.
• Measure attachment heights, span distances and structure dimensions.
• Measure distances from existing or proposed ISP construction facilities.
• Produce field notes and sketches for work orders and permits.
• Identify bonding and ground requirements.
• Collaborate with team to ensure project efficiency.
• Drive safely and maintain vehicles and equipment.
• Perform work in all weather conditions.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

At RJE Telecom, as an Engineering Field Technician, you’ll support the design and implementation of outside plant (ISP) facilities by collecting and documenting critical site information, including measurements and sketches. You will be the design engineer to ensure project specifications are met while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Candidate must live in the Northern Virginia area, or close to Winchester and/or Warrenton, Virgina.

Compensation Data

This is a unit based position with a minimum pay range of $24.00 to $26.00 per hour based on experience. A unit pay agreement will be provided at the time of offer letter for your review.

What you’ll do

• Locate, sketch and document detailed information of ISP facilities including cables, poles, ground structures, terminals, manholes and equipment
• Measure attachment heights, span distances and structure dimensions
• Measure distances from existing/proposed ISP construction facilities
• Take measurements, field notes, and produce sketches for work orders & required permitting
• Identify bonding and ground requirements
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure project efficiency
• Drive safely, follow company safe driving policies, and ensure all company vehicles and equipment are clean and well-maintained
• Perform work in all weather conditions
• Other duties as assigned

What you’ll need

• To be 18 years of age or older
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• Valid state driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
• At least two years related experience and/or training
• Reside in the Northern Virginia area or close to Winchester and/or Warrenton, Virginia.

Knowledge of

• Aerial or underground utilities
• ISP facilities, construction techniques and conduit records
• Easement, right of way and permit documents
• Experience with Inside Path Design and must know AutoCad or Microstation.

Physical abilities & exposures

• Routinely: Work alone in remote locations, operate vehicle, walk, use keyboard and mouse
• Occasionally: climb stairs and stand
