The Technician Engineer Field provides a route analysis of outside plant telecommunications. These engineers are the backbone of telecom and service provider companies since they are the primary designers of the entire network.

Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage field engineering activities responsible for planning, designing, and obtaining permits for new cable routes
- Visit customer sites to gather OSP site survey information, evaluate customer requirements and determine the OSP equipment required
- Work as part of a multi‑faced team consisting of engineering, construction, project management, and scheduling personnel, all with a common goal of delivering results to the customer
- Coordinate with drafting and/or GIS personnel located in remote offices to produce construction drawings to be used to construct the network
- Develop base mapping and provide field engineering services required to prepare permit drawings, OSP construction drawings, and final as‑built drawings in electronic format
- Research and incorporate permitting requirements from jurisdictional authorities (state, county, city, railroads, and others) into the OSP design
- Recommend final route based on the most economical solution and permitting agency’s requirements
- Research and evaluate various route options associated with the projects, including aerial and underground options, existing customer conduit and other third‑party conduit
- Engage daily with the customer’s engineering team and project management staff via email, phone and occasional in‑person meetings
- Maintain safe working habits and conditions according to regulations and policies
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of age or older
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Valid state driver’s license (not provisional) and acceptable driving record
- Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening
- Must be able to attend and pass all company‑required training as needed
- May be required to work after hours, on weekends or be on‑call as work is needed
- Regular and timely attendance is essential
- High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
- 4‑6 years of experience in the OSP Engineering field with knowledge of aerial and underground construction methods and engineering requirements
- Experience with cable placement and splicing methods and practices
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to travel and work extended hours; overtime and weekends as needed
- Reliable transportation and a clean driving record
- Familiarity with permitting requirements for state and local agencies (preferred)
- Working knowledge of Rural Utility Service (RUS) units and their meaning process (preferred)
Physical & Safety Requirements
- Requires standing, crouching, sitting, bending, and using hands and fingers to handle or feel, as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low
- Noise level in the work environment is low to moderate
- Frequent lifting or moving up to 50 pounds in a shift
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions including extreme hot or cold temperatures, icy or wet roads, rain, snow or sleet, changes in terrain, urban or rural settings
- May be exposed to toxic chemicals or corrosive material
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Pay Range
The Technician Engineer Field position pays an hourly wage of $20.00 – $30.00, depending on experience.
