Job summary

Day & Zimmermann, Kansas, is seeking a Safety EMT to assume on-site safety leadership at our munitions facility. The role focuses on developing and implementing written procedures, hazard assessments, and providing essential safety oversight for all operations.

You will perform EMT duties, conduct drills, coordinate fire prevention activities, and ensure compliance with NFPA and OSHA standards while supporting the DoD program and training requirements.

Qualifications

  • State of Kansas EMT certification required.
  • First Responder certification or ability to obtain within 60 days.
  • DoD certification training including HAZMAT within 12 months of hire.
  • Familiar with NFPA standards.
  • Familiar with OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily safety walk-throughs of all areas; ensure SOP/OSHA/DoD compliance.
  • Coordinate fire and tornado drills; provide CPR/First Aid training.
  • Conduct monthly fire extinguisher inspections facility-wide.
  • Serve as first responder for alarms; provide EMT-level care.
  • Apply NFPA and OSHA training standards to safety practices.
  • Perform medical duties including new hire physicals and drug screening.

Job Summary

Assumes primary on-site responsibility for safety at the facility for a minimum of 3 days a week. Takes an active role in development, review and implementation of written procedures, design of facilities and hazard assessments to insure the safety of all operations. Performs all duties of an EMT. Responsible for providing fire prevention and OSHA support for the Safety Department.

Responsibilities
  • Performs independent daily safety walk-thrus of production, support services and maintenance shops - identifying safety issues and taking appropriate actions (seeking approval of Safety Manager as needed), ensuring compliance with SOPs, OSHA, and DoD Safety regulations. 20%
  • Plans and conducts fire and tornado drills along with other Safety training to include CPR/First Aid Training. Prepares and coordinates Fire Prevention Week activities. 10%
  • Performs monthly fire extinguisher inspections plant wide, assuring compliance. 10%
  • First Responder for all alarms and emergency calls. Administers emergency medical care at scene of emergency and while transporting to medical facility in accordance with basic EMT standard of care and authorized protocols. 20%
  • Knowledgeable about all practices and methods regarding training and job performance in accordance with NFPA and OSHA Standards. 20%
  • Perform medical duties including new hire and annual physicals, drug screening and assessments. 20%
KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)
  • State of Kansas EMT certified.
  • Certified as First Responder or able to obtain certification within 60 days
  • Must successfully complete training required to be DoD Certified including but not limited to HAZMAT Awareness and HAZMAT Operations training within 12 months of hire.
  • Be familiar with all practices and methods regarding training and job performance i/a/w NFPA Standards.
  • Be familiar with OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications
