Job summary

Ryder System, Inc. in Rochester, New York is hiring a mid-level Diesel Technician to maintain and repair heavy-duty vehicles on evening shifts.

The position offers weekly pay, comprehensive benefits after 30 days, and opportunities for skill growth with state-of-the-art diagnostics. You will work a Tuesday–Saturday schedule on second shift, earn a $30.50 hourly wage, and qualify for certification bonuses, quarterly bonuses, sign-on bonuses, and tuition-repayment programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification post-secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
• Basic tools required
• Two+ years of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Must pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background check from previous employers for last 3 years

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance
• Performs standard component inspections and repairs
• Performs preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer
• Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and performs repairs as required
• Replaces defective components as instructed
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of the complaint
• Uses Shop Management System and electronic documentation
• Adheres to safety, DOT, MOT guidelines
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations

• Hourly Pay:$30.50 per hour
• Certification Bonus of $100 for each New ASE Certification Obtained up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: Ryder Pays you up to $500 Every Quarter - Four Times Per Year
• Sign On Bonus: Ryder Pays You $1250 at 30 days and $1250 at 90 days
• Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday
• Hours: Second Shift Tuesday - Friday 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm, Saturday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
• Basic tools, required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:
• Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work, required
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience, preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A,preferred
• This position requires for you to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee you must:
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

• Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to Service Island support
