The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an Engineering Technician to augment our engineering teams in the development of small satellite technologies. The selected candidate should have experience in set-up, fabrication, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, composite structures, bonding, and paint.
SDL, a University Affiliated Research Center, has been developing innovative technologies and solutions for cutting-edge DoD and intelligence programs for over six decades. Our expertise is in space and airborne IR, VIS, UV, and RF sensors, small satellite technologies, test and calibration, cybersecurity, data visualization and assurance, and ground stations.
The successful candidate will fabricate, assemble, manufacture, and test composite structures in support of in-house composite shop development efforts to be implemented across multiple programs. This includes working with composite materials, bonding inserts and clips, fabrication, and assembly of satellite structures and development of manufacturing processes for composites, bonding, and paint. The selected candidate will be required to review and implement test plans, drawings, specifications, and planning in support of various development projects. Skills needed include strong working knowledge and experience in a majority of the following areas: coupon fabrication, installation of mechanical inserts and clips into composite materials, bonding and paint, operation of specialized operating equipment and tooling, handling operations, and safe use of various chemicals. Job function requires use of standard computer skills.
