Job summary

Fleet Direct Truck and Trailer Sales in Tennessee seeks a Technician C to inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel equipment, performing preventative maintenance and safety checks under supervision. You’ll keep records, communicate with senior staff, and help control costs using warranties and efficient parts options.

The role requires flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment. Relevant CDL/HD experience is a plus; OSHA safety standards apply.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A preferred but not required.
• Welder certification preferred but not required.
• Experience in class 8 tractor maintenance; hydraulics a plus.
• Some knowledge of electronic diagnostics.
• Peterbilt chassis experience a plus.
• Knowledge of DOT compliance, laws and safety helpful.
• Knowledge of transportation management system a plus.
• Computer literate; Microsoft Office suite a plus.
• Attention to detail and high accuracy.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stay calm under pressure.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willingness to work more than 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose and repair vehicles/equipment with supervision.
• Conduct safety checks on trucks.
• Perform maintenance with guidance from senior techs.
• Maintain clear communication with Lead Mechanic/Foreman.
• Keep shop equipment running; manage supplies and parts.
• Contain costs by using warranty and evaluating options.
• Update job knowledge via training and publications.
• Occasionally perform service calls for emergencies.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area per OSHA standards.
• Follow established procedures during all tasks.

MORE ABOUT THE TECHNICIAN C ROLE:

What will the Technician C do?

Technician C maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records with guidance and some direction.

What is the Technician C responsible for?

1. Perform inspection, diagnosis and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment with supervision and/or direction of level A and B Technicians.
2. Conduct safety checks on trucks.
3. Perform maintenance related work as required with guidance of level A and B Technicians.
4. Maintains a clear line of communication to the Lead Mechanic/Foreman and other staff in the maintenance department.
5. Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance.
6. Contains costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
7. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
8. Occasionally may perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
9. Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards and perform all work in accordance with established procedures.

What knowledge, skills and abilities are required for the Technician C role?

1. Class A CDL license is preferred but not required.
2. Certified welder is preferred but not required.
3. Experience in class 8 tractor truck maintenance and/or equivalent schooling, background of hydraulics a plus.
