Summary/objective
Technician B requires average mechanical knowledge and performs most mechanical tasks assigned to them, including jobs such as brakes, rotors, fluid exchanges, oil changes, transmission, differential, cooling system maintenance, tire repairs and replacements, and additional services like wiper blades and air filters. Technician B communicates with customers, educating them on necessary preventive vehicle maintenance. Additional duties may include courtesy services, tire repair, and replacement services.
Compensation
- You are paid an hourly rate and a commission percentage that is standard across the company.
Responsibilities
- Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, following supervisory guidance and factory standards.
- Handle more complex repairs and diagnostics than a Tech C, including electrical systems and minor engine work.
- Work independently on most tasks; may train Tech C and assist Tech A with complex repairs and diagnostics.
- Diagnose vehicle problems based on customer complaints and inspections, with knowledge of brakes, A/C services, transmissions, power steering, suspension repairs, and more.
- Examine vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is needed or recommended.
- Coordinate with the Center Manager regarding additional work, unnecessary work, or repairs that cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Document all work performed and recommended; road test vehicles as needed.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any damage to management.
- Keep shop areas neat, clean, and organized.
- Maintain and be accountable for all store-owned tools and manuals, returning them in proper condition.
- Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA guidelines.
- Operate all tools and equipment safely; report safety issues immediately.
- Participate in training programs sponsored by the organization.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: Education and/or Experience
- Three or more years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and manuals; write routine tickets and notes.
- Effective communication skills for presenting information and responding to customer questions.
- Valid Driver's License.
- State Emission Certification, if applicable.
- Current ASE Certifications are highly desirable.
- State Vehicle Inspector Certification, if applicable.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Tools for performing services must be provided; a personal toolbox is required on site.
- Must sign a contract agreeing to the company’s uniform policy and procedures.
- Ability to work in cramped spaces, such as under vehicles or in lower bays.
- Upper body strength and stamina for using hand tools and securing fasteners.
- Fine motor skills for handling small fasteners.
- Good vision for reading diagrams, manuals, and working with color-coded wiring.
- Ability to work in fluctuating and extreme weather conditions.
