Description

Basic Job Functions:

The following is an entry-level Automation Technician controls position where a successful candidate will be required to support manufacturing operations, assist with equipment implementation/startup, PLC/HMI programming, and troubleshooting/optimization of manufacturing process control systems. This position directly supports a manufacturing site. The successful candidate will be assigned to a manufacturing schedule on either the AM or PM shift. The AM shift is 6:00 AM - 6:10 PM, and the PM shift is 6:00 PM - 6:10 AM. This results in a rotating 36/48-hour work week schedule, including working every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of manufacturing equipment electrical/electronic/controls experience.
  • Associate/Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Robotics, Industrial Controls, or Electronic Engineering (preferred).
  • No Degree - Must have 5+ years verifiable experience in a related field (e.g., Semiconductors, Automotive).

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and set priorities.
  • Ability to interpret data and make reasonable conclusions to assist in troubleshooting.
  • Good understanding of reading electrical/mechanical drawings and suggesting modifications.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and safety requirements.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical/electronic control systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Competent in Autodesk AutoCAD for creating electrical schematics and panel layouts.
  • Knowledge of programming/troubleshooting Rockwell Automation Logix PLCs and HMIs (FactoryTalk View ME; Proface HMI experience a plus).
  • Understanding of control networks such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, Ethernet.
  • Basic knowledge of robotic systems, including troubleshooting, programming, and safety.
  • Understanding of computer hardware, applications, and Microsoft Office.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL databases and OPC protocols.

Essential Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support manufacturing facilities, including remote support for global sites.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical control systems.
  • Assist with new equipment installation and MES integration.
  • Maintain and update electrical drawings and documentation.
  • Implement software changes and upgrades as specified by Controls Engineering.
  • Identify, research, and present solutions to control problems and continuous improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with various departments and ensure safety and housekeeping standards.

  • Configuring and testing software and hardware, and performing maintenance tasks.

  • Supporting operational procedures, maintenance, and support requests.

Reporting Relationships:

  • This position will not have direct reports.

Travel:

  • No travel required, but extended time in other plants may be necessary prior to plant start.

Estimated Salary Range:

  • $26.30 - $37.50 hourly.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for up to 12 hours.
  • Occasional climbing, lifting, pushing, and pulling with specified weights.
  • Use of hands for repetitive tasks, visual acuity, and wearing PPE.
