Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc is offering a pathway to become a heavy-duty equipment technician. You will develop skills to safely perform preventive maintenance on tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other fleet equipment in a shop environment.

This entry-level role emphasizes safety, learning objectives, and teamwork with other technicians while documenting work and complying with laws and company policies. Starting pay is $26.53 per hour.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or GED), preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license may be required; Class A CDL preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles with manual and automatic transmission.
  • Ability to enter/exit driver's compartment using foot and handholds.
  • Able to frequently lift components weighing ~110 pounds with equipment or assistance.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete training.
  • Ability to stand, bend and twist.
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to work safely and professionally in a shop / LTL environment.
  • Complete learning objectives to develop competency in preventative maintenance on tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Work with other technicians in performing preventative maintenance and repairs; prepare records and reports to document work performed.
  • Comply with laws/regulations and company policies.
  • Perform other duties as required.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Develop knowledge and skills to become a heavy-duty equipment technician and create a career path in Fleet Maintenance at FedEx Freight. Learn how to safely perform preventative maintenance and repairs on a vehicle fleet that includes tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other on- and off-road equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Learn to work safely and professionally in a shop / LTL operational environment
  • Complete each learning objective timely to develop competency levels in preventative and routine maintenance on tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment
  • Work with other technicians in performing preventative maintenance and repairs Learn to prepare records and reports both in writing and electronically to document work performed
  • Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
  • Perform other duties as required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job

Exposure to dust, diesel fumes and noise

Exposure to climate conditions of the geographic area

Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases, paints or other irritants
