TITLE: Tech-Advisor (T/A)

REPORTING TO: Service Manager EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt / hourly

General Summary
The Tech-Advisor lives VIP’s mission to EARN AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE by learning the VIP culture and processes to help the team ensure that all customers get a different & better experience. A Tech-Advisor must be able to work effectively with team members to ensure effective communication, teamwork, and operation in serving customers at their location. The Tech-Advisor delivers an exceptional customer experience and high-performance results through helping the team achieve execution of VIP programs and standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure workplace safety as Priority #1, following all safety policies, completing safety training, reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Serve customers at the counter as a service writer, consulting with them, building relationships, educating about vehicle conditions based on inspections.
  • Work in the shop as a technician when necessary, completing assigned work orders according to VIP standards.
  • Complete all required training and certifications for Service Writer and Technician roles.
  • Achieve success in customer engagement and billed hours, supporting VIP productivity standards.
  • Learn and execute all assigned activities to deliver a better customer experience.
  • Complete all LMS and vendor training, and obtain certifications including T.I.A. BATS, TPMS, ASE, and others as listed.
  • Communicate effectively with the team, participate in meetings, and monitor customer communication via email when at the counter.
  • Support the 5-for-5 process to educate customers about vehicle conditions and solutions.
  • Attend off-site meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Maintain facility and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and safety, and report issues promptly.
  • Enforce compliance with the service Code of Ethics, regulations, and company policies.
  • Perform other functions as required and communicate with management to ensure service standards.
Performance Measurement
  • Support the Service Manager in achieving performance targets through daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
Standard Management Work Week
  • Schedule: 5 days per week, 40 hours.
  • Attendance: Arrive before shift start, work all scheduled hours.
Required Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Business acumen, problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organization and industry knowledge.
  • Minimum of 1 year in automotive service.
  • Completion of a two-year college or technical program recommended or equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver’s license, safety certifications, ASE certifications including C1, P2, G1, A4, A5, and applicable state inspection license.
Work Environment

Indoor service department with exposure to weather, noise, chemicals, and mechanical equipment. Protective eyewear required.

Physical Demands

Includes sitting, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting up to 21 lbs., and vision requirements. Accommodations available for disabilities.
