Description
Summary/objective: Technician A requires above-average mechanical knowledge and performs most mechanical tasks assigned, including brakes, rotors, fluid exchanges, oil changes, transmission, differential, cooling system maintenance, tire repairs and replacements, and additional services such as wiper blades and air filters. Communicates with customers to educate on preventive vehicle maintenance. Additional duties may include courtesy services and tire repair.
Compensation: You are paid an hourly rate plus a standard commission percentage across the company.
Essential Duties
- Perform work as outlined on repair orders efficiently and accurately, following supervisory guidance and factory standards.
- Handle more complex repairs and diagnostics than Tech B or C, including transmissions, heavy-line repairs, and engine overhauls.
- Assist in training Technician B and/or Technician C team members.
- Repair knowledge of brakes, A/C services, transmissions, power steering, suspension repairs, and more. Diagnose and repair vehicle issues based on customer complaints and inspections.
- Examine vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is needed or recommended.
- Coordinate with the Center Manager on repair scheduling.
- Document all work performed and recommended; road test vehicles as needed.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any damages affecting appearance or condition.
- Keep shop areas organized and clean.
- Maintain accountability for tools and manuals, returning them in proper condition.
- Comply with all relevant safety and environmental regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA standards.
- Operate tools and equipment safely; report safety issues immediately.
- Participate in training programs sponsored by the organization.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of related experience or equivalent training/education.
- Ability to interpret safety rules, manuals, and procedures; write routine tickets and notes.
- Effective communication skills with customers.
- Valid Driver's License.
- State Emission Certification (if applicable).
- Current ASE Certifications are highly desirable.
- State Vehicle Inspector Certification (if applicable).
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Must have tools to perform required services; a personal toolbox is necessary.
- Sign a contract agreeing to the company's uniform policies.
- Work in confined spaces such as underneath vehicles or in lower bays.
- Require upper body strength and stamina for using hand tools and securing fasteners.
- Fine motor skills for handling small fasteners.
- Good vision to read diagrams, manuals, and work with color-coded wiring.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
