Job summary

Instrata is seeking a skilled Technician to install, test, and troubleshoot a wide range of low-voltage communication systems across commercial spaces. You will interpret blueprints, lead cable installations, and perform terminations with precision.

The role requires mentoring junior installers and planning weekly material needs to ensure project efficiency. You will read drawings and apply job specifications, coordinate with Project Leads, and ensure safety and standards are followed on every

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • OSHA 10 Certification (required).
  • Valid, clean driver’s license is required.
  • Must pass drug screen, background check, and I-9 verification.

Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate coax, UTP, DAS, AV, multiconductor, access control, intrusion detection, and fiber cables and connectors.
  • Test copper and fiber using appropriate equipment and troubleshoot issues.
  • Read and apply drawings, specifications, and job scopes accurately.
  • Plan weekly labor and material needs with a proactive mindset.
  • Build daily to-do lists and ensure installers follow standards.
  • Perform retrofits and system enhancements for existing cabling
  • Lead field execution and assist in directing junior crew members.
  • Install equipment such as switches, cameras, and UPS systems.
  • Report daily progress to Project Leads and track materials.
  • Maintain safety, professionalism, and cleanliness on-site.
  • Ensure installations comply with OSHA 10 and Instrata standards.
  • Collaborate with Leads and Foremen on bonding, grounding, firestopping, etc.

We’re looking for a skilled, driven Technician who’s passionate about installing, testing, and troubleshooting a wide range of communication systems. From fiber optics to access control, you'll be part of a team that builds the infrastructure powering today's most advanced commercial spaces.


In this role, you’ll interpret blueprints, lead cable installations, and perform terminations and equipment setups with precision and care. Whether you're mentoring junior installers or planning weekly material needs, you’ll bring quality, consistency, and professionalism to every job site.



What You’ll Do – Execute with Precision. Lead with Accountability.


  • Install with Confidence: Handle installation and termination of Coax, UTP, DAS, AV, Multiconductor, Access Control, Intrusion Detection, and Fiber cables and connectors.

  • Test and Troubleshoot: Operate copper and fiber test equipment; identify and resolve performance issues.

  • Interpret and Implement: Read and apply drawings, specifications, and job scopes accurately.

  • Plan Ahead: Anticipate weekly labor and material needs with a proactive mindset.

  • Support Team Efficiency: Build and follow daily to-do lists, and ensure installers follow standards and best practices.

  • Upgrade Infrastructure: Perform retrofits and system enhancements for existing cabling and devices.

  • Lead Field Execution: Assist in laying out cable pathways with minimal direction and help direct junior crew members.

  • Install Equipment: Mount and configure electronic devices such as switches, cameras, and UPS systems.

  • Track and Communicate: Report daily task progress to Project Leads; monitor and track project materials.

  • Maintain Standards: Promote safety, professionalism, and cleanliness on-site; represent the company with pride.

  • Support Compliance: Follow OSHA 10 guidelines and ensure installations align with industry and Instrata standards.

  • Collaborate Actively: Work closely with Leads and Foremen to plan bonding, grounding, firestopping, and other key elements of the project.



What You Bring


  • 1–2 years of low-voltage installation experience in commercial construction

  • Knowledge of color codes (4- and 25-pair) and cable termination methods

  • Familiarity with cabling codes, standards, and tools for structured installations

  • Ability to interpret schematics and work independently or under guidance

  • Basic use of smartphones, tablets, and cable test equipment

  • Comfortable with Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Familiarity with Smartsheet and other project tracking tools



Certifications & Requirements


  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)

  • OSHA 10 Certification (required)

Work Environment

This is a physically active, field-based position. You’ll regularly lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in tight or elevated spaces. The job involves standing, kneeling, crouching, and handling tools for extended periods. Travel may be required depending on job site location.
