Job summary

Gessner Engineering is hiring CoMET Technicians in Brenham, TX to perform field and laboratory testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt. You will collect samples, run tests, and prepare reports, supporting concrete and materials testing services for client projects.

The role is full-time and based on site in Brenham, with training on safety procedures and equipment operation. A valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 70 lbs are required; relevant ACI certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record for the past 3 years is required.
• Preferred certifications include: ACI Concrete Field-Testing, ACI Concrete Strength Testing, ACI Aggregate Testing, SB 101, SB 102, SB 201.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor on construction sites.
• Perform field inspection and testing.
• Field Concrete Testing: Slump, Air Content, Cast Compressive Strength Specimens.
• Field Density of In-Place compacted soils.
• Conduct Reinforcing Steel Observations.
• Conduct Proof Roll Observations.
• Laboratory testing of soils, aggregate and asphalt.
• Prepare daily reports and documentation of field activities in electronic format.
• Maintain a clean work area and handle materials.
• Load and unload trucks, haul and hoist materials.
• Ensure proper PPE is worn on job sites and communicate issues to management.
• Possess the ability to read and understand procedures.
• Safely operate Gessner Engineering vehicles on road and job sites.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles in line with guidelines.
• Perform logging and packaging of soil samples.
• Assist Drilling team with augers and sampling tools.
• Communicate job site conditions with team and engineering teams as needed.

Gessner Engineering Construction Materials Engineering and Testing (CoMET) Technicians collect and perform tests on soils, concrete, and asphalt both in the field and in the lab. Clients request our testing services to serve as quality control for certain aspects of their projects. The tests CoMET Technicians perform verify if materials meet specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform materials handling and storage
• Load and unload trucks, haul and hoist materials
• Ensure that proper personal protective equipment is worn on all job sites. Brings problems to the attention of your manager or HR manager.
• Possess the ability to read and understand procedures
• Safely operate Gessner Engineering vehicles on the road and within job sites
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles in line with proper use, maintenance, and safety guidelines
• Perform logging and packaging of soil samples
• Assist Drilling team with augers and sampling tools appropriate for unique soil conditions
• Communicate job site conditions with team and engineering teams as needed

Qualifications

• Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
• Licensure/Certifications
  • Required - Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past 3 years
  • Preferred - one or more of the following
    • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Certification
    • ACI Concrete Strength Testing
    • ACI Aggregate Testing
    • SB 101 – Materials Properties
    • SB 102 – Field Specialist
    • SB 201 – Moisture-Density Specialist
• Experience/Skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Physical strength, stamina, and dexterity to lift and move 70 lbs., stoop, bend and stand throughout the course of up to a 12-hour workday in varying weather conditions at various construction sites with varying terrain.
