Econolite Systems, Inc. in Ankeny, IA is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support ITS devices and traffic signal systems. You will install, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment and assist in training new technicians.

Responsibilities include wiring, testing detectors, and coordinating subcontractors. A valid driver's license and OSHA awareness are required, with a background in video systems preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License and DMV record.
• 1–5 years of ITS/video systems experience preferred.
• Knowledge of ITS devices and traffic signal equipment.
• OSHA regulations knowledge.
• Ability to read schematics, site plans, maps, and engineering drawings.
• Ability to wire cables for signal operation.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance for ITS devices and troubleshoot wiring in cabinets and underground.
• Install/repair video detection systems and signal heads, poles, lighting.
• Troubleshoot wiring problems on highways, replace conductors, test detectors.
• Assist in training new technicians and perform duties of related technician roles.
• Schedule subcontractors for electrical and RWIS work and conduit installations.
• Represent the company as a positive customer service ambassador.

Under general direction, the successful candidate will support Econolite Systems, Inc. in Ankeny, IA by performing work in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of traffic signals and other Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices.

DUTIES

• Perform the maintenance function for ITS devices and related equipment, and perform basic troubleshooting of both wiring problems in cabinets as well as underground.
• Understand and program video detection systems; install knockdown temporary/permanent replacement poles, signal heads, street lighting and/or combination of these items.
• Troubleshoot and repair wiring problems on the highway, up to and including the replacement of conductors in conduit; test and splice loop detectors.
• Assist in the training of new technicians; perform all job functions of Maintenance Technician and Maintenance Technician Trainee.
• Perform all job functions of Utility Technician and any other assignments as requested.
• Scheduling of subcontractors for subcontracted work, including electrical and Remote Weather Instrumentation System (RWIS) contractors, and/or conduit installation contractors.
• Serves as a proactive customer service & quality ambassador of The Econolite Group, Inc. by representing the organization in a positive, professional manner to support The Brand Promise.
• Performs other duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable DMV record.
• One (1) to Five (5) years of related experience in video systems, cabling, or similar electronic/ITS field work preferred.
• Knowledge of tools, equipment, practices, and methods used in installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic signals, ITS devices and associated equipment preferred; Video Detection configuration, troubleshooting and repair experience highly desired.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of traffic control guidelines, both state and local, in addition to pertinent federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations regarding electronics
• Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
• Ability to interpret design schematics, site plans, maps, and engineering drawings.
• Ability to wire and connect cables necessary for operation of signalized intersections preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to stand, walk, squat, and bend at the waist for extended periods of time
• Safety sensitive position—will be required to work at busy traffic intersections
• Required to drive up to five hours a day; ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
• May work in various, changing outdoor weather conditions, i.e. rain, heat, snow, etc.
• Ability to work at elevated heights, including the use of bucket trucks
  

PRE-EMPLOYMENT

All candidates who accept employment will be subject to a background investigation and drug screening. For applicable roles, candidates who accept employment will also be subject to a Motor Vehicle/Driving Record screening. For this role, a Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical Exam will be conducted by a licensed medical examiner and issued a medical examiner’s certificate, valid for up to 24 months.
