Job summary

J&T Business Consulting seeks an experienced Technical Writer (Level 3) in Annapolis Junction, MD. You will author, oversee, and maintain complex technical documentation for DoD programs, ensuring DS-89 compliance and quality across all deliverables.

Lead documentation projects, work with engineers and SMEs, and translate intricate concepts into clear manuals, SOPs, and training materials. Active TS/SCI with Polygraph is required, with 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent advanced

Qualifications

• Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with a current Polygraph.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline plus at least 8 years of technical writing experience on programs/contracts of similar scope and complexity, OR
• Master's degree in a technical discipline plus at least 6 years of technical writing experience (Master's degree substituting for 2 years of experience), OR
• 12 years of relevant technical writing experience without a degree (4 additional years substituting for the degree).
• Demonstrated expertise authoring documentation in compliance with NSA Data Standard (DS)-89 and defense acquisition frameworks.
• Proven ability to comprehend and document complex cryptologic systems, software development workflows, and engineering schematics.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, Visio.

About the Role

Seeking an experienced Technical Writer (Level 3) to author, oversee, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, acquisition deliverables, and training materials in Annapolis Junction, MD.

In this role, you will act as a documentation lead for complex cryptologic systems and DoD defense acquisition programs. You will collaborate directly with systems engineers, software developers, and subject matter experts to translate intricate technical concepts, engineering drawings, and operational procedures into clear, accessible documentation. You will also provide quality oversight to ensure all deliverables comply with NSA Data Standard (DS)-89 and DoD publication guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Author, edit, and maintain complex technical publications, user manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), training guides, and system design specifications.

Develop defense acquisition lifecycle documentation for DoD electronic systems and cryptologic mission platforms.

Ensure all documentation products strictly adhere to the technical manual standard NSA DS-89.

Conduct in-depth research by gathering technical data from engineering documentation, schematics, and direct consultations with technical staff.

Interpret engineering drawings, maintenance schematics, and operational workflows to synthesize large volumes of software and system data.

Lead documentation projects with voluminous or complex content, coordinating design, formatting, and layout standards across multiple contributors.

Perform peer reviews and quality assurance on documentation deliverables prepared by other technical team members.

Maintain and curate the program's centralized internal documentation repository and library.

Prepare high-level reports, white papers, and briefing presentations targeted to diverse technical and non-technical audiences using tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with a current Polygraph.

Experience & Education:

Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution plus at least 8 years of technical writing experience on programs/contracts of similar scope and complexity, OR

Master's degree in a technical discipline plus at least 6 years of technical writing experience (Master's degree substituting for 2 years of experience), OR

12 years of relevant technical writing experience without a degree (4 additional years substituting for the degree).

Standards & Compliance: Demonstrated expertise authoring documentation in compliance with NSA Data Standard (DS)-89 and defense acquisition frameworks.

Technical Breadth: Proven ability to comprehend and document complex cryptologic systems, software development workflows, and engineering schematics.
