Opengear designs and manufactures products for data center and remote site management. We are a rapidly growing supplier of sophisticated data center, network and remote site management products. Our customers include tech unicorns and Fortune 100 companies. We are the leading supplier of out-of-band solutions for IT infrastructure management and are actively exploring new solutions for hyper-scale data center deployment and management. We are a global company with offices in Brisbane, Australia and Sandy, Utah.

Position

This is a great opportunity for a mid-level Technical Writer to take ownership of documentation across innovative networking solutions used by some of the largest data centers and enterprise IT teams in the world. You’ll work alongside passionate engineers, product managers, and UX designers who are focused on building high-availability systems. This role offers the chance to grow your expertise, contribute to critical infrastructure, and improve customer experience through clear and effective communication.

Location: Must be near Sandy, UT

What You Will Do

  • Develop, maintain, and improve end-user and technical documentation for Opengear products and solutions
  • Author and manage content such as setup guides, online help, release notes, and developer documentation
  • Use and test products directly to document real-world usage scenarios
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Support to gather technical details and clarify requirements
  • Ensure documentation aligns with Opengear’s voice, branding, and user expectations
  • Optimize content for online delivery and searchability (SEO)
  • Participate in Agile development processes and team meetings

Who You Are and What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, English, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of experience as a technical writer, ideally with hardware/software products
  • Proficiency with tools such as MadCap Flare, FrameMaker, Confluence, Git, Markdown, or similar
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail and consistency
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications and translate into user-oriented content
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work independently and cross-functionally

Desired But Not Required

  • Experience with single-sourcing, DITA, or structured authoring
  • Familiarity with networking equipment, protocols, or infrastructure environments
  • Understanding of UX, customer journey mapping, or user research feedback loops

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $73,500 - $115,000. Pay ranges are determined by role, job level and primary job location. The range displayed reflects the reasonable range we anticipate paying for this position and reflects the cost of labor within several U.S. geographic markets. The specific salary offered within the range will depend on various factors including, but not limited to the candidate’s relevant and prior experience, education, skills, and primary work location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each position. Pay ranges are typically reviewed and updated annually.
