Step2 is seeking a Technical Writer-Illustrator in Streetsboro, OH to design and produce assembly instruction manuals for new products and revisions. The role requires strong visual communication, proficiency in 2D/3D design, and collaboration with engineering to optimize assembly steps.

The candidate will create 3D illustrations using Creo Illustrate, manage documentation workflows, and maintain manuals and templates for consistent quality across the product family.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical work experience.
• 3+ years of related work experience.
• Strong graphic design with attention to detail.
• Proficient with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
• Experienced with CAD software, preferably Creo.
• Proficient with Creo Illustrate for 3D illustrations.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and edit assembly instruction manuals for new products and revisions.
• Study CAD models and liaise with engineers to determine best assembly approach.
• Create graphics and 3D illustrations using Creo Illustrate and other CAD tools.
• Assemble product data, verify BOM accuracy, and document processes.
• Collaborate with engineers, safety, quality, marketing, and customer service through development to sign-off.
• Maintain templates, libraries, and translation terminology for manuals.
• Ensure on-time delivery and maintain release schedules.

Job Summary:

The Technical Writer/Illustrator for the design and creation of assembly instruction manuals for all new products and for revisions and maintenance to existing assembly instructions. Must be proficient in 2D and 3D design and able to demonstrate strong visual communication and organizational skills.

Job Duties:

• Plan, develop, design, organize, write, and edit all new and revised (ECN) assembly instruction manuals forentireproduct family.
• Study product samples and CAD models and talk with product engineers to understand the best possible approach for assembly.
• Create all necessary graphics, illustrations, photography, and 3D models using PTC Creo Illustrate and other CAD-based tools as needed to illustrate the assembly steps while also reducing and/oreliminatingthe word count for the assembly descriptions.
• Assemble product whenavailabletaking detailed assembly notes and checking all components and hardware for accuracy with the engineering Bill of Materials.
• Work directly with product engineers, safety, quality, legal, marketing, product management, E-Commerce, and customer service through various stages of development, reviews, revisions, and final sign-off ofinstruction manuals.
• Administer test builds with customer service and make further refinements to instructions based on observations and direct feedback.
• Maintain release schedule for all new and revised instruction manuals.
• Maintain a comprehensive library of Instruction templates and graphics categorized by product type.
• Maintain a comprehensive library of warning and safety terminology with all corresponding translations.
• Document andmaintainnew and revised (ECN) Instruction sheet approval process workflows.
• Produce hard copy (printed) manuals for all new products for first article & pilot runs beforepurchasingmakes production quantity order.
• Produce bulk hard copy (printed) manuals asrequiredfor contract manufacturing customers and when requested bypurchasingto meet deadlines.
• Research, train, and keepup-to-dateon all current design trends and technology improvements.
• Other responsibilities and projects may beassignedas necessary.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical work experience.
• 3years + related work experience.
• Strong graphic design skills thatdemonstrateunderstanding of static layout and analytical design with attention to detail.
• Proficient with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
• Experienced with CAD software, preferably Creo.
• Proficient with PTC Creo Illustrate for creating 3D technical illustrations used in assembly instructions.
• Experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Ability to learn new software / workflows quickly.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Team player with a “can do” attitude to overcoming obstacles and finding solutions.
• Must have excellent time management, projectmanagementand organizational skills.
• Must be a self-starter with leadership qualities and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Must haveabilityto prioritize workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Vuforia Studio is a plus.
• Experience with other creative 3D software is a plus. (Blender, 3DS Max, Maya, etc.)
• Experience with Adobe After Effects and Premiere is a plus.
• Experience with web and/or UI design is a plus.
• General understanding of computer programing is a plus.

This position will perform most job duties in an office environment where using a computer, software applications, telephone, printer, etc. are essential.
