Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Technical Writer II to join our team in McLean, VA. You will work with the technical implementation teams to understand product document requirements and assist in compliance with our Quality Management System.

You will create documentation from templates, convert legacy formatting to current guidelines, and contribute to writing processes, style guidelines, and lifecycle improvements. A SECRET clearance and US citizenship are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems.
• Secret clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret clearance (US citizenship required).
• At least 2 years of experience writing technical reports, analyzing technical literature, and verifying documentation with sources.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Arbortext Editor, Adobe CC, Adobe Acrobat, HTML and XML; S1000D preferred.

Responsibilities

As a Technical Writer II with AMERICAN SYSTEMS you will have the opportunity to do the following:

• Work with the technical implementation teams to understand the product document requirements.
• Assist in the creation and submission of documentation required for compliance with our Quality Management System.
• Assist in establishing and continuously improving the standardization and simplification of technical writing processes, procedures, and style guidelines.
• Contribute to documentation development lifecycle improvements
• Convert legacy/previous formatting to latest formatting/style guidelines.
• Create documentation based on standardized templates.
• Analyze and edit content to maintain continuity of style and content.
• Assess the audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended.
• Conduct document reviews and collect input from stakeholders.
• Create data flow diagrams, component diagrams, and similar technical illustrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems.
• Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret clearance (US citizenship required).
• At least 2 (two) years of experience in: Writing technical reports, analyzing technical literature, writing descriptive copy, and verifying documentation with appropriate sources.
• Ability to use various word-processing and desktop publishing software applications. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required. Familiarity with Arbortext Editor, Adobe CC, Adobe Acrobat, HTML, and XML.S1000D specification to produce technical publications preferred.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Active SECRET Clearance and US Citizenship

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $80,000.00/Yr. - USD $105,000/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
