Job Description:

A leading defense and engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to develop and maintain high-quality documentation for complex military vehicle systems.

In this role, you’ll work closely with engineers, SMEs, and technical teams to write, revise, and format manuals and procedures for mechanical and electrical systems. The ideal candidate has experience in the defense industry and is skilled in XML tools, IETMs, and Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

• Write and revise technical documentation including manuals, maintenance procedures, and illustrated parts breakdowns (IPBs)
• Use XML authoring tools (e.g., Arbortext, Oxygen) to structure and format content
• Collaborate with cross-functional and remote teams, including engineering and validation staff
• Ensure documentation complies with military and industry standards
• Utilize Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar tools for markup and technical illustration reviews
• Support content validation and verification activities

Required Qualifications

• Experience with XML authoring tools (such as Arbortect or Oxygen)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Skilled in Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar PDF markup tools
• Technical writing experience in a mechanical, electrical, or operator support role
• Strong attention to detail, writing skills, and English language proficiency
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience (5+ years)
• Excellent communication and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in or supporting the defense industry
• Familiarity with IETM (Interactive Electronic Technical Manual) development
• Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS)
• On-vehicle validation/verification experience
• Knowledge of military/commercial technical standards
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, and electronics
