About The Role

As a Data Center Technical Writer, you will research, author, and maintain critical infrastructure documentation for a world-class facility. This role is strictly focused on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems and physical data center infrastructure. You will not be documenting cloud software, AI applications, or network topology. Instead, you will be responsible for creating the standard operating procedures that keep the physical facility running safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop, edit, and format standard operating procedures (SOPs), emergency operating procedures (EOPs), and maintenance standards for critical MEP infrastructure.
  • Utilize standard templates to ensure all facility documentation is uniform, clear, and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Create and integrate diagrams, sketches, flowcharts, and photographs to visually illustrate complex physical systems and procedures.
  • Conduct field research and interview data center engineers, facility managers, and technicians to extract technical operational knowledge.
  • Review existing equipment manuals and manufacturer specifications to become familiar with facility cooling, power, and backup systems.
  • Validate the accuracy of live site documentation by performing physical walk-throughs and verification with engineering teams.
  • Provide ad-hoc technical writing support to facility managers and operations teams during infrastructure upgrades or audits.
  • Apply foundational engineering or technical writing principles to physical infrastructure environments with a strong focus on operational safety.
  • Work within standardized safety and practices to achieve facility objectives, mitigate operational risks, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Exchange clear, straightforward information with technical teams, asking precise questions to ensure operational accuracy.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with up to 3 years of technical writing experience, ideally in an industrial, manufacturing, or mission-critical environment. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and hands-on facility experience will be considered.
  • Professional Technical Writing Certificate (or equivalent certification) from an accredited institution is highly preferred.
  • Ability to translate complex mechanical and electrical concepts into clear, step-by-step procedures for field technicians.
  • Experience analyzing information, engineering drawings, and equipment schematics to make sound documentation judgments.

  • Strong organizational skills paired with an inquisitive mindset to deeply understand how critical systems interconnect.
