Job summary

Planet Technologies, the Nation’s leading Microsoft services provider to the public sector, seeks a Technical Policy Writer to research, outline, write, and edit policy content across departments, ensuring a cohesive voice and compliant documentation.

You will draft policies with subject matter experts, coordinate governance programs, support PMRs, and maintain information architecture and style guides, including interaction with OCIO and external partners; DC onsite required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or English with five (5) years of experience in a similar position with a large federal organization.
  • Communications strategy and execution experience.
  • Process development and improvement experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to collaborate across organizations, technical acumen, and ability to translate technical language for a non‑technical audience.
  • Polished presentation skills using multiple methods of delivery (in person, electronic, and digital).
  • Experience performing user research and synthesis.
  • Ability to work onsite in DC five days a week and hold an ongoing Active Top Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in drafting and developing, then updating technology policies in collaboration with subject matter experts to ensure compliance with Federal, departmental, and other government agencies.
  • Support government leads on a minimum of six policies to be endorsed by leadership per year with major updates.
  • Conduct 12 independent Program Management Review (PMR) briefings each year on the status of select policies, occurring once per month.
  • Provide user support and subject matter expertise on the existing technology policy portfolio.
  • Review and facilitate the collection of comments on proposed legislative statutes, executive orders, OGA policies and programs, and policy collaboration from relevant personnel.
  • Gather information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
  • Work with development and support leads to identify all documentation repositories, and revise, edit, and determine the best solution for data compilation and centralized storage.
  • Research, create, and maintain information architecture templates that uphold organizational and legal standards, allowing for easy data migration.
  • Ensure that documents follow the style guide laid out by the organization; may also be responsible for maintaining the style guide and suggesting revisions as appropriate.
  • Create and execute project plans, communication plans, and refined communications products for overall technology governance.
  • Manage administrative and logistical duties for multi‑division working groups where OCIO leads and supports throughout the enterprise, reporting back to senior leadership.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with working‑level stakeholders within and outside of the OCIO, including external partners.

Overview

The Technical Policy Writer researches, outlines, writes, and edits new and existing content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements, developing content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, and maintaining a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation.

Compensation

Salaries for a Technical Writer at Planet Technologies range from $70,000 to $90,000. Several factors will impact final pay offered to a successful candidate, including but not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, clearance level, industry experience, education, training, and more.
