Job description

Company Overview

Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.

We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.

And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.

We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.

Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.

Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.

Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.

With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.

Join us in building the power foundation of the future!

About Amperesand

Amperesand is building next-generation power infrastructure systems for Data Centers, EV charging platforms, and future energy applications. Our systems combine advanced power electronics, embedded controls, and scalable energy architectures to rethink how power is converted, controlled, and deployed.

About The Role

Amperesand is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join the Deployment team to lead the development and management of comprehensive product documentation and to develop an online document portal for our customers and partners. This role is central to our commitment to delivering clear, accurate, and compliant documentation across the entire product lifecycle from customer acquisision through site design, installation, commissioning, operations, service, and safety. This role will support the entire commercial organization across Sales, Deployment, Service, and Policy. We’re looking for candidates that are skilled communicators, technical subject-matter translators, and have experience with online portal administration. We’re seeking an individual who can work effectively across engineering, product, IT and other partner teams. You will author manuals that meet rigorous industry standards, establish documentation best practices, and build a world-class portal experience that empowers customers and partners to find and use our technical resources independently.

What You’ll Do
  • Author, edit, and maintain the full suite of product documentation including sales content, site design guides, installation manuals, commissioning procedures, operations and maintenance manuals, service and troubleshooting guides, safety documentation, applications notes and technical whitepapers.
  • Translate complex electrical, mechanical, and control-system information into clear, accurate, and standardized documentation with support from internal teams.
  • Manage source files, graphics, diagrams, and illustrations, coordinating with engineering and design resources to keep visuals current and technically accurate.
  • Develop and enforce documentation standards, templates, and style guides to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance across all manuals and technical publications.
  • Plan, manage, and prioritize documentation projects against product development and release schedules, coordinating revisions for new products, engineering changes, and field updates.
  • Design, implement, and administer an online document portal, including site structure, content organization, and access permissions.
  • Monitor portal usage and gather customer/partner feedback to continuously improve document findability, clarity, and the overall self-service support experience.
  • Lead translation and localization efforts for international markets, ensuring technical accuracy is preserved across languages.
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of technical writing experience for technologically complex products involving hardware and software.
  • Demonstrated experience authoring installation, commissioning, operations, service, and safety documentation for complex mechanical or electrical equipment.
  • Sufficient technical depth to easily grasp technical concepts across engineering domains including mechanical, electrical, controls, software, networking.
  • Proven experience planning, building, or administering a document management system or customer/partner portal, including configuring user roles.
  • Proficiency with technical publishing and authoring tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, Oxygen XML, or similar structured authoring/DITA environments) and graphics tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, draw.io, Blender, etc).
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects and deadlines simultaneously across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written communication skills with meticulous attention to accuracy, consistency, and clarity in highly technical subject matter.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to manufacturing, installation, or job sites to gather firsthand technical information.
Nice to Have
  • Experience working in a startup.
  • Experience working as an engineer.
  • Strong preference for candidates from energy, power generation, industrial equipment, or equipment OEM environments.
  • Ability to independently interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, CAD models, engineering specifications, and test documentation for translation into customer/partner documentation.
