Job summary

Ideal Aerosmith Inc. is seeking a Technical Writer to develop, organize, and maintain technical documentation for motion test and simulation systems.

You will translate complex information into clear manuals for internal teams and customers, supporting assembly, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and support. Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and test engineers to ensure accurate reflections of system functionality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Physical Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of technical writing or technical documentation experience in an engineering or technical environment.
  • Experience developing technical manuals, procedures, work instructions, or similar documentation.
  • Familiarity with machinery, electronics, software, or complex technical systems preferred.
  • Experience working with engineers and other technical subject matter experts.
  • Experience with document management and revision control preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and manage documentation projects through completion.
  • Ability to travel (domestic and internationally) and obtain a passport.
  • Due to federal contract requirements applicable to this position, candidates must be U.S. citizens.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain system, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and service manuals for motion test and simulation equipment.
  • Create technical procedures supporting system setup, testing, operation, inspection, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Translate engineering drawings, specifications, test data, software information, and technical discussions into clear, accurate documentation.
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, software, systems, and test engineers to gather technical information and ensure documentation accurately reflects system functionality and configuration.
  • Collaborate with engineering and test teams to develop test-specific procedures and supporting documentation.
  • Review and update existing documentation as system designs, configurations, software, and customer requirements change.
  • Identify gaps or inconsistencies in technical information and work with subject matter experts to resolve them.
  • Develop and maintain consistent documentation standards, templates, formatting, and terminology across Motion Test Services.
  • Maintain documentation within company databases and document management systems, including appropriate revision control.
  • Support the development of engineering and manufacturing work instructions as needed.
  • Develop technical reports, white papers, system descriptions, and other technical materials in collaboration with engineering and sales.
  • Support documentation needs for system delivery, customer acceptance, installations, upgrades, and field service activities.

The Technical Writer will develop, organize, and maintain technical documentation supporting Ideal Aerosmith’s motion test and simulation systems, including centrifuges, rate tables, multi-axis motion simulators, and related control, electrical, mechanical, and software systems.

This role will work closely with engineering, test, manufacturing, field service, and program teams to translate complex technical information into clear, accurate, and usable documentation for both internal teams and customers. Documentation will support the full lifecycle of our systems, including assembly, testing, installation, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and customer support.

  • On-site at our Grand Forks, North Dakota headquarters
  • Hybrid at our Grand Forks, North Dakota headquarters
  • Remote within North Dakota or Minnesota (with up to 25% travel)
Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain system, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and service manuals for motion test and simulation equipment.

  • Strong communication and information-gathering skills when working with technical subject matter experts.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with engineering and other cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and documentation projects in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work for extended periods at computer workstation/keyboard.
  • Ability to type accurately and efficiently.
  • The position will require walking, standing, squatting, crouching, stooping, lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, sitting, repetitive motion and kneeling.
