Position Overview

We are hiring a Technical Writer to support a client in Annapolis Junction, MD. This is a mid-level role focused on creating and maintaining technical documentation for software, systems, operations, and program support.

The ideal candidate has experience working with developers and technical teams to gather information, organize complex subject matter, and produce clear documentation, user guides, manuals, reports, briefings, and training materials for a wide range of audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications.

Create code documentation and software-related technical documentation.

Gather technical information from developers, engineers, and subject matter experts.

Prepare written technical content for various types of program and project documents.

Use tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and other documentation/presentation tools.

Work with developers to produce high-quality documentation and training materials.

Support all phases of the documentation process, from research and drafting through review, editing, formatting, and final delivery.

Education Substitution

Four years of additional Technical Writing experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

Desired Qualifications

Experience documenting software, code, or technical systems.

Experience maintaining documentation libraries or repositories.

Experience creating training materials, briefings, process documents, or technical reports.

Familiarity with software development, systems engineering, or technical operations environments.

Ability to create diagrams, workflows, and visual aids using tools such as Visio or PowerPoint.

Paid Time Off & Schedule Flexibility

Paid Time Off: PTO accrues at a rate of 13% of hours worked, which equals approximately 6 weeks, or 30 days, per year for a typical full-time employee.

PTO Carryover: Up to 240 hours of PTO may be carried over from year to year.

Flexible Schedule: Flexible or alternate work schedules may be available with customer approval.

401(k) Contribution: 15% automatic company 401(k) contribution, including 3% safe harbor and 12% profit sharing/company discretionary contribution.

No Vesting Period: Employees are fully vested immediately.

Payroll Contributions: Employer 401(k) contributions are deposited every payroll.

Contribution Options: Pre-tax and Roth 401(k) options are available.

PTO and Retirement Flexibility: Employees may have flexibility to adjust PTO and 401(k) contributions based on personal preferences, with appropriate pay rate offsets.

Health Insurance

Medical Insurance: Medical insurance is available with a significant company contribution.

Medical Plan Options: Plans include a CareFirst BlueChoice Advantage Platinum Plan with a $0 deductible and a CareFirst BlueChoice Advantage High Deductible Plan with HSA.

HSA Contribution: For employees enrolled in the High Deductible Plan, the company contributes 1/4 of the deductible to the employee’s HSA quarterly.

Vision Insurance: CareFirst BlueVision Plus.

Spending Accounts

Health Savings Account: Employees enrolled in the High Deductible Plan may contribute additional funds to an HSA up to IRS limits.

Flexible Spending Account: Medical FSA contribution limit of $3,200 per year.

Dependent Care FSA: Dependent Care FSA contribution limit of $5,000 per year for married couples filing jointly.

Company-Paid Insurance

Life Insurance: $50,000 life insurance and $50,000 AD&DD coverage, paid by the company.

Short-Term Disability: Coverage of 60% of pay, up to $1,000 per week, paid by the company.

Long-Term Disability: Coverage of 60% of pay, up to $6,000 per month, paid by the company.

Professional Development

Education and Training: Up to $5,000 per any twelve-month period for approved training, courses, books, materials, online courses, college courses, seminars, conferences, travel, and related costs.

Company Apparel Allowance: $100 per calendar year toward company logo apparel.
