Job summary

Impellam Group seeks a skilled technical writer to create and update material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related publications covering work methods and maintenance.

Based in Raleigh or Charlotte, you will organize content, ensure compliance with standards, and collaborate with engineering and production teams to document installation, operation, and service procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience writing technical publications and manuals.
• Ability to organize material and meet publishing standards.
• Familiarity with installation, operation, and maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities

• Acquire assignments from supervisor and plan writing tasks.
• Study production and engineering materials to understand procedures.
• Interview personnel and read technical literature to learn product technologies.
• Review catalogs, drawings, and data related to operation and service.
• Study blueprints and diagrams to integrate technology with procedures.
• Organize material and complete writing assignments per standards.
• Review materials and suggest revisions to scope or content.
• Maintain records of work and revisions.
• Select visuals to illustrate material.
• Assist in laying out material for publication.
• Arrange typing, duplication, and distribution of material.
• Write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases.

Writes and updates material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Acquire assignments from supervisor
• Study production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail
• Interview production and engineering personnel and read journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods
• Review manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service
• Study blueprints, flowcharts, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mock ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail
• Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
• Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding
• Maintain records and files of work and revisions
• Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material
• Assist in laying out material for publication
• Arrange for typing, duplication, and distribution of material
• Write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases
