Job summary

Kids for the Future is seeking a Technical Writer for an onsite role at our Charlotte, NC facility. The position may move to a hybrid schedule after demonstrated performance and operational needs are met.

You will create, revise, and maintain technical documentation—SOPs, work instructions, process flows, and training materials—for manufacturing, engineering, procurement, and logistics. You will translate complex drawings and data into clear language, collaborate with SMEs, apply AI tools with

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years in technical writing position.
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing, engineering, and/or pharmaceutical environment; or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven ability to write clear, accurate technical content for operational and technical audiences.
  • Strong interviewing and information-gathering skills; able to extract knowledge from SMEs.
  • Excellent critical thinking, attention to detail, organization, and version-control discipline skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple documentation projects with shifting priorities.
  • High mental flexibility and comfort working with cross functional teams; willingness to learn new domains quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Create, revise, and maintain technical documentation including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flows, and training support materials.
  • Partner with subject-matter experts across departments to gather accurate technical content, clarify processes, and ensure documentation reflects current practices.
  • Translate complex drawings, specifications, process data, and operational knowledge into clear, concise language appropriate for the intended audience (operators, technicians, planners, etc.).
  • Establish and uphold documentation standards for structure, formatting, and version control.
  • Continuously improve existing documentation based on feedback, process changes, audits, and observations.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate drafting, editing, consistency checks, and content reorganization while maintaining human oversight for accuracy and technical integrity.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Training teams to maintain organized document repositories and ensure controlled documents are properly versioned and accessible to the right users.
  • Prioritize work based on company needs and deadlines.
  • Stay current with documentation best practices, tools, and relevant regulatory or industry expectations (especially in a regulated manufacturing environment).
  • Support the company’s strategic vision and values.

The Technical Writer creates, maintains, and continuously improves clear, accurate, and user-focused documentation that supports cross functional teams such as manufacturing, engineering, procurement, logistics, and other teams. This role translates complex technical information into practical guides, work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, and reference materials that help employees perform their work safely, consistently, and efficiently. The ideal candidate is highly adaptable, comfortable working across multiple functions, and eager to leverage AI tools to increase quality and speed.

This is an onsite role based at our facility, with the potential for a hybrid work-from-home schedule after demonstrated performance and operational needs are met.

Required Skills / Abilities

  • Proven ability to write clear, accurate technical content for operational and technical audiences.

Highly Competitive Applicants:
  • German language skills are highly advantageous.
  • Familiar with AI prompting, writing, and confirming the results.
  • Experience in an ISO9001 environment.
  • Prior work in a pharmaceutical, medical device, or other regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Technical background or hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment or processes.
  • Training or certification in technical communication is a plus.
